Firewall port - change to 80
I thought originally this might just be a selfish request for myself so I can have the game up at work ;), but it looks like there are several threads on people having trouble connecting.
I would suggest to change the port for connecting to the game from the custom one to regular port 80.
This should correct/alleviate most of the client connectivity issues due to firewall blocking.
I would think it wouldn't be too bad of a fix unless the server is also hosting web as well.
Cheers!

If your firewall at work is that restrictive, i doubt their network admin is so simple that they'd accidentally allow UDP on port 80 when they meant to allow TCP on port 80 for web traffic...
They don't have to accidentally allow it, I would add the rule myself. Easier to sneak in a UDP port 80 rule than one in the custom range.
I was hoping thought that this would help make things easier for other players as well, ease some frustration possibly?
Cheers.

Our custom ports have been in use for a decade. We're in the default settings for certain networking equipment manufacturers, and so on. I'm not really comfortable changing to port 80, no. Many companies that only allow web traffic actually use proxy servers anyhow, which would not be.. viable for us. Unless we start to encapsulate game traffic in faux-HTTP packets, which is not something I intend to do.
mojoflow, if you've got the capability and know-how to finagle the firewall rules, why not try encapsulating/tunneling the game's traffic yourself to some outside box?
Incarnate,
Thanks for the response, I understand your reasoning, was just wondering if it would be something technically easy to implement on your end, and you have said it is not. Cheers!
abarretryfail, I may look into doing that, allthough, on my laptop I can connect to our wifi network and get access so it will be low on my priorities :)
p.s. Since I have incarnate's ear at the moment, I just wanted to say I am quite impressed by the game, but I am VERY surprised that I hadn't heard of it before. I got online with your guys because of the Penny Arcarde giveaway. I am sure you got a lot of new players and hopefully subscribers (I will be one) from that, as I am sure that will just help you to keep making the game how you want it to be. Anyway, keep up the good work!
