make game playable in browser
(i searched this before posting, don't worry. it probably has been brought up before, but I'm sorry) Im on the go, and i don't exactly have a laptop to call my own. I know this game is HUGE and i understand that. i would just like to see the game maybe compressed and uploaded to a website. Im pretty sure this isn't possible, but i would LOVE to play on my friends laptop without having to wait 15 minutes to DL and save myself from getting yelled at by taking up space.
It's on android isn't that enough???
Just DL it on a thumbdrive. The client is only 200-300 megs, IIRC.
I have a copy save to an eight gig Compact Flash card.
I suppose the idea isn't bad, but... honestly, I'd call it extremely low priority.

Even browser games, have to download assets the first time you play them. Take quake live for example, and the size requirements for that are very low compared to VO. I would imagine you would have to wait way longer than 15-20 mins, and that's if possible at all.
Neat idea! I wonder how well this would work with WebGL and the like... Control surfaces might be pretty limited in a browser though. :(
Even using NaCl there would still be a fairly large amount of work to make this happen, especially with streaming assets, but admittedly it would be pretty cool.
I actually talked to some Google people about this out in Mountain View a couple of years back, when NaCl and their GL thing were in the works. It would be pretty neat, but a major undertaking. And then you're still limited to Chrome.
The game is too much for WebGL. Plus I think if I set the development goal of re-writing the game client in javascript and WebGL, there would be a rash of Milwaukee-based suicides.
It's all possible, hardware/connection wise, and has been for awhile, the right mix of standards just need to be present and ubiquitous enough. Oh, and I need more coders. Har.

You'd have to hire more coders for it to be a "rash" of Milwaukee-based suicides too. :P
Just cheat like Id did with quakelive and bundle the naitive client as a plugin that just writes to the window the browser occupies heh
thanks, im so puting this baby on a flash drive
But a very reduced feature set could reach the browsers... that non-flying game client, for chat and trade... maybe even play as gunner with simplified visuals...
