Make players drop custom scrap metal when they go boom
Example Ryan Reign scrap metal 2cu, yodaofborg scrap metal 1cu, Strat scrap metal 10cu.
Sold fer shit 0c, but fun fer collectors.
Make it randomly happen XD fer more fun
oh, and ye can addition scrap metal from a same player.
PS: amount of scrap depends on ship size, not player size... :p

How about making the scrap actually useful... like port wing support (vulture scrap), damaged specialized grav-engine (superlite scrap).
Said scrap could be use in crafting other grey/black market ships that could counter nation specialized ships (considering wants/needs of a faction redux and changes).
Of course the special useless scrap like cracked veteran pilot helmet (kill someone with a PvP badge) could drop once in a while... like 1:50, then other items such as merchant/trader jacket (kill someone with a trade badge while they're in a trade ship), miner helmet/goggles (similar to merchant/trader).
My 2 cents.
[EDIT] Of course, the crafting bit is all for another ball game and not to make PvP based scraps to be purely relied upon for every crafted ship, but said scrap could help skip/change certain item requirements in crafting.

+ a whole damned lot!
If I may... not derail the thread but switch the track and take it in a similar direction...
Also add human remains, so that a player might also end up with Ryan Reign's left eye, yodaofborg's head, Strat's left ulna or DeathSpore's chunk of upper left torso!
Its always been fun to collect trophies... and we could use some aside from badges, these as well as personal scrap would make for cool "semi-unique" mementos.

I'd prefer vacuum-dessicated ears.
I hear BT has nice stems....
Trophies have a very dark side to them as well. Surb's Idea might be workable without inviting all the abuse that this type of reward tends to bring. Newbs will also need to be protected and or excluded from trophy drops.

Lecter, is that a kick-back to Diablo II?
Ears were present in the original Diablo, though I'll confess to having played some D II in my time. Regardless, the squish sound they made was awesome.
Pa K, you and your abuse concerns should go play Hello Kitty Island Adventure.

Pak, what ye wanna to with me stems? me wonders ^^
Ye sure ye dont wanna be introduced "to" The Masked Cucumber instead? : ]

I played the original Diablo as well - The abuse was to the point that the only way a player could play was to cheat. VO does not need this kind of an atmosphere.
You will also notice I didnt say no - I said it will need to be carefully controlled....
Good thing yer just an angry kid in yer mamas basement Lecter - You would never make it as a real lawyer.

The abuse in Diablo was rooted in the ease of hacking/duping items -- King's Sword of Haste and Archangel's Staff of Apocalypse ftw. Ears were just an offshoot of that problem, and everyone would have been endlessly PKed everywhere in town even without them.
You'll notice I didn't say you said no; I said your concerns and stated restrictions were sinking pigshit. It's cute you're so concerned about my professional status, but I regret to inform you that I've been enjoying associate life in a large law firm since 2007. Ugh. And now, off to work.

Yeah yer right - no one in VO ever goes noobing.....
Even a newbie can afford to pay their friendly neighborhood space pirate a paltry 500c. Better they learn about piracy as a newb while flying a free ship than when they're hauling 1.4 M worth of goodies in a moth.
Besides, what would I want with a pile of newbie guts? Unless one of them grows to be the next maalik, they're just worthless guts from people who nobody cares about. ...unless, that is, we get a manufacturing mission where you can extract dna from a body part to create a clone of that person, so that the next time you respawn you come out with that guy's name and faction stats until the next time you die. Wacky hijinx ensue!
