add a "repaint ship" button on ship select screen

Jan 22, 2012 Conflict Diamond link
In the ship selection screen, under the rotating model of the selected ship, where the "repair" and "reload" buttons are, add a "repaint" option (for some fee based on ship size), that lets you see the color choice on the model as with purchasing. If ever you add more customization to a ships paint scheme, this would be where it could be applied. Upsell custom textures like the anniversary vults, etc...

Of course I thought of this after /exploding a trident just to change shades of purple, but thought it might be an easy add that applied to all.

+2 to new textures / differentiation of ships: silver mettalic, golden, stripes, poneys, skull and bones...
+3 to make more areas of ships "paintable", so we can really customize the ships, instead of painting small details on ship = make all ships more like the Vulture, less like Atlas, regarding texturing 3D model.

+1 to repaint option! It should cost a few credits of course.

Alloh, you mean make more of the actual ship's texture change color with the color of the ship instead of just a few stripes, right?

@arf: Yes. At least add a similar hue to existing "fixed" textures. Imagine an Atlas, instead of mostly white with small stripes, become entirely dark gray... or bright pink..., or golden yellow for my UIT alt... :D

Surely, for a price. Credits. Texturize a ship can cost up to 1,000,000c for 'exclusive' textures, as whole-black-with-skulls... and 100,000c for a single color painting...

For simple recolors (not alternate textures) the price should be pretty low relative to the ship's buy price, certainly no more than 10%.

Maybe don't have every station offer painting services, to help add a little diversity to them. Mining and research stations shouldn't. Barracks could only offer it to people in the military. Commercial stations would, and maybe manufacturing as well.

If fancy textures are also added, those could also be scattered about - barracks offer military-ish textures, but nothing really fancy, commercial offer most everything, and manufacturing just do the generic ones we already have. And of course, faction would influence selection as well - Serco aren't going to be willing to paint a big "Eo" on the side of your moth, and TPG shouldn't paint their logo on your ship unless you have high standing with them.

That would be cool to have some differentiation in ships from their place of origin. You'd figure a Vulture MkIV bought from an Itani Barracks would have all sorts of military identification marks on it versus one bought from out in greyspace with nothing on it.

To not have the repaint feature available at every station would defeat the purpose of the suggestion (well, conq stations don't need it). I like to color my ships based on their function. It makes it easy to distinguish a rag bomber from a mining rag. If mining stations didn't offer repainting services then it would make reconfiguring/repainting a bomber rag to a mining rag more trouble than it's worth since mining stations sell the best mining equipment.

I'm fine with special textures or decals being more exclusive, but the most basic repainting should be available everywhere.

I've also wanted to incorporate a ship reconfigure option into ShipLoadoutsManager, but the lack of being able to repaint ships has put a hamper on that plan.
