Trident Component drops
How about adding a bit of value to the border missions by dropping various Trident components when the various cap ships are destroyed? The higher order of ship the more valuable the dropped component.
it has been suggested before. Huge danger of massive farming, since deneb chews up a LOT of cappies, but at a very VERY low drop rate, it could offer further incentive to participate in the Border War.
off the top of my head, but maybe something like:
1% chance of 1 salvageable component dropping. if dropped, the following weighted % table:
00-40 Fused Composite Plating
41-80 Fluid formable Silksteel
81-90 Reinforced Bulkhead
91-95 Internal Bulkhead assembly
96-97 Engine Pylon Assembly
98-99 External Bulhead Assembly
100 Hangar Bay Assembly
The Reactor should never survive, as it kind of is what blows up the ship, and I'd assume engines, master computers, and sensor arrays would not survive in salvageable form, but maybe sub-components would, and perhaps this would be a way to get ahold of the class A1 controlled aggregators the Corvus shipyard substitutes with hive tech :)

Yes, the drops should be rare. As far as I'm concerned, this seems like an easy change that would provide an incentive for more folk to get involved on the border. I'm already seeing a 100% increase in participation since the stats page went up. I'd like to build on it.
Also, I don't really like the idea of a single path to anything of value to players in VO,

I'm convinced that rare drops work in other games and provide good incentives for players to get involved in some of the fun, but less rewarding aspects of the game like deneb border skirmish.
I know i'd have done more of it if i knew i could obtain capship parts. I stopped because I couldnt stand the faction hit constantly going down.
1+ to OP and 1+ to CD's post

Yeah... II can't imagine why there'd be a faction hit! We're only killing hundreds of their military!
I'm not saying there shouldn't be a faction hit, merely that it was a contributing factor.
Faction hit is a downside, capship parts would be a great kicker for the upside.

It's not a down side, its a logical consequence! I cannot wait for the damned faction fix so all you pathetic Tri PoS pos care bears will be forced to pick a side and VO can evolve into what it should/could be.
So fucking pathetic!

Yes Yes. Faction fix is coming. Had to spend a lot of this past week on CES followup bizdev stuff.
Back to the topic at hand: I can also make player capships actually drop components more often. That might make for an interesting benefit to.. killing player capships? So the drops could be really rare for deneb type ships, but fairly common for actual player manufactured Tridents.
Hmm, that might actually be a bit more complicated than I originally thought, our current "drop" mechanics are mostly exclusive to NPCs. But we could figure something out.
Random thought anyway, incentive for conflict and all that.

Sounds more like you're encouraging players who already have the capship to blow it up every week. Not that its a bad idea, but sounds exploitable.
yay to the faction update!
yay to the faction update!
Will UIT players with both Itani and Serco standing get to choose? or will the fix default to the highest one and adjust the other downward?
Or will the faction levels stay the same, and future actions will adjust them from here on out?

This thread is not about faction standing. Feel free to start a different one.
hmmm this is a good idea... would possibly inspire those of us who haven't any interest of building a capship (points to himself) to rethink it...

Now it would be easier to make a trident :). (kind of a stupid thing to say because it is so rare that ONE item drops. lmao) Take note. Don't drop those Milinar things. cuz one day, there will be type S and type P
