Simple IFF fix: tag native KoS
A simple fix that would fix the "why did a guy on my own team shot me?" feeling.
Simple.
Native KoS (and hated) are "painted" different on radar AND chats.
Example:
SercoRat is Serco KoS. For any Serco player (newbies) he no longer appears RED in chats, neither GREEN in radar. He becomes gray/pink in chats and darker red on radar.
(k) stats page show him as Serco, and Serco KoS/Hated standing.
This change can be kept later, with full faction redux.
From IFF aspect this is just like a 4th nation.

No to the chats - leave it.
Yes to the radar - show him as red (hostile).
Plain old bright red. Not dark red - that would make newbies less likely to see him until too late. don't want to cloak him do ya?

+1 to both chat & radar color.
This is a simple, elegant solution, which, is so elegant, it, deserves, more, commas.

Err?
Native KoS players show up as red to their "team-mates."

We already have different colored chat to signify -where- the chat is coming from, group, guild, active channel, inactive channel, sector, private message, etc. Wouldn't this get in the way of that?
No more so than having different factions gets in the way. Sector would still be green, pm would still be red, the name would simply be colored.
The colored name is the only way we have to tell what nation someone is from without looking at the sector list or using a plugin. Neither of those are available if the person isnt in the same sector as you.
To be fair, it doesn't matter what nation they are from. It matters what nation they hold allegiance to.
If they are KOS with their home nation, does it really matter if they are Serco and you are Itani? Is my enemy's enemy not my friend?
If they are KOS with their home nation, they give up the right to be labeled as that nation until standing improves.
....and by KOS, I mean -1000 KOS

It does matter if they're Serco and I'm Itani. That's the whole point of the war.

@ARF:
it matters if you are a Itani newbie and someone in shows up in Chat and Radar in same "team" (nation) as you, and all off sudden they attack you.
About chat color code, it remains simple:
Itanis with Itani dislike or better have bright blue names. Itanis with native Hated/KoS are dark blue in chats.
Same two tones code for UIT and Serco citizens.
Results in the "darked out" faction, for all practical purposes.
And maybe I'm wrong, but radar shows native dislike/hated as green dots inside native nation, for all local citizens.
While I was a newbie I saw many 'conrades' attack me without provocation. Why was that guy an asshole and remains in same team as I am? IF the 'griefer' is no longer in "my team", then it is no griefer, it's the enemy!
I would accept that "visual ban" only for native KoS, but for me it would work better requiring only hated.

theres this really nice plug in called.... MAKE FRIENDS. It already does all this and more.

The point here is: the game doesn't know what a player's actions are going to be, so there's really no way to make this work nicely.
I'd rather see colorized radar dots based on whether or not you will get a standing hit for killing someone. New players shouldn't have to rely ENTIRELY on plugins for this...

I got a new notebook, AMD Vision, and installed Vendetta on it... what a deception the so many features it was missing, since they was provided by plugins on my old box... now imagine a newbie that doesn't even know what a plugin is...
While ARF's idea about tag who you can shoot carelessly is something perfect for a plugin to provide, a specialized, veteran-aimed, interesting functionality...

This has got to be the twentieth time you have re-written your fourth nation/pirate nation/banned nation/etc... etc... idea, and the sixth time you've posted an idea that would achieve the same as your fourth nation/pirate nation/banned nation/etc... etc... idea.
"And maybe I'm wrong, but radar shows native dislike/hated as green dots inside native nation, for all local citizens."
You're half wrong, hated shows up red no matter where you are.
"Native KoS (and hated) are "painted" different on radar AND chats."
Already the case, so there is nothing to change.
"Example:
SercoRat is Serco KoS. For any Serco player (newbies) he no longer appears RED in chats, neither GREEN in radar. He becomes gray/pink in chats and darker red on radar."
The chat thing is just ludicrous. Chat covers the universe. We do this and poor newblets are going to watching chat, sector list and radar looking for boogey men. And turning a radar blip dark red would render the enemy practically invisible in certain sectors.
- 100000000000 to the latest regurgitation of the same idea you've been spewing for years.

@RR:
do you have any better suggestion on how to improve IFF, nationaly/traitors and keep piracy as a valid option, I'd like to hear.
Until then, you have the right to disagree...
> Adding Sector Lists and all other location where the player name appears.

I honestly have no problem with the way it is... you're trying to "fix" something that isn't broken/bringing out your fourth nation/pirate nation/banned nation/etc... etc... idea (that the majority of people hated).
