Mining towards a badge
I'm doing a lot of mining while working towards a cap ship. I suggest that when ore is used in a mission it is counted towards miner badges same as when sold to a station.
But that would reduce the amount of mining I would have to do.... thats horrible.

+1 to OP. And add ore to the badges in ALL mining missions.
+1. PaK can suffer. :p

-1. No. You already get a bonus for doing mining missions even if some idiot newbs or ebil ppl trash the prices. Thus, oh well.

Since it is logical and badge text says you "must mine X crates of ore", and not "mine ore while not in other non-mining missions".
PaK have all badges, it no longer affects him.

Yes. Shush silly pirate.

For the purpose of the "mine and sell X ore" badges, I guess it makes sense to count it. I was going to disagree and make a witty comment about all the stolen ore I have accumulated, but I'd still have to go out and mine that much ore to fill the other requirement of the badge, so when I consider that, it doesn't seem as silly.
Edit: erm, sorry Kierky, I must have deleted my original post while you were replying. Unless you were talking to vskye.

+1 (is anyone shocked?)
I think any mission that takes in ore should add to the "sold" count for basic mining badges. It still would prevent people from simply afk strip-mining their way to basic miner badges. It is not a huge advantage to mining lifers like me & PaK, being that we are working on millions of cu between badges, but it would be really REALLY good to allow new players to participate in what little content there is for miners. It is always hard to inform them that, no, all the mining they have done didn't help them get their basic miner I badge, and that they must mine & sell off-mission. This to me would seem like a broken game mechanic to a new player.
PS: PaK you still NEED to mine to get your beam fix (ooooh! pretty!)

They don't have to mine more to meet that quota, ore picked up from hive robots and sold also counts.
The basic miner badge needs visible counters that make sense. That would resolve all this hubbub about mined/sold/etc.

It only counts because you amass a surplus of mined cu's doing mining missions, trade guild mineral missions, filtering for rare ores and jetting the rest, etc. If I understand correctly (correct me if I'm wrong, Ray) there are unseen counters for each ore type, and you can only sell found or scavenged ores up to the surplus of mined cu's you amass for each ore type.
From what I can make of the game mechanic of "mined and sold", they are just trying to make you haul it back to station, so what is the big deal allowing cu's used in missions? The miner made the ore useful to the game world. Seems a no-brainer to me.

Will grouped mining count towards the badge or do you need to mine/sell the ore yourself regardless?
I have no idea how you guys managed to get even to BM2, this is incredibly tedious :/

We'll take a look.
Well, as the only one in this thread with Basic Miner IV(so far) and all the rare ore badges at IV and maxed out, one might think that I would say -1 to this because then it would make it easier for you lazy bastards to get what I spent a lot of time non-mission mining to get. However, I am all about badges and making the game better and more enjoyable. As such, I know that providing any variety, excitement, or goals with rewards would definitely make the long grindy journey through the badges more fun and thus provide something else that would make the game better. I can only imagine being able to do a helio mission and also get a helio badge while your mining xp level increases and you earn a few million...feels good bro...
So, +1 to this and +1 to other ideas related to more mining badges and rewards/equipment awarded to miners.
Interstellar still waits for the 0 heat infinite distance collector beams!!! :-P

The next update will count ore taken from you through a mission to be counted as being sold to the station.
