I saw this on programming.reddit. I'm sure posts about interesting programming challenges found in VO would attract some new users. After all, I learned about the game from an Erlang article.

Don't compare VO with EVE, it's completely different games.

He's not comparing it to eve, just using it as an example of a project with a dev blog. Lots of games and projects have dev blogs. Overgrowth, Infinity, Archon, Minecraft...

The news page isn't quite a blog. It mostly just updates when there are updates to the game, and doesn't really get into the development details. It says what they changed and why they changed it (usually), but not much about how they changed it.

What I question is whether the time spent writing blog posts would bring in more users than if that time had been spent programming. For a project with a big team, the answer would be yes, but when there are only three developers, perhaps not.

Yeah, the news page is not the kind of thing that Zak is talking about, and his post had absolutely nothing to do with EVE... Andy posts some interesting stuff on his own site, but he's no longer a VO dev.

Most of it doesn't actually relate directly to VO, but it was still fun to read. I agree that it would be cool for the devs to do this and might attract some new players. Hopefully they can find the time to do it. I imagine that they're pretty busy.
