Some kind of way to make choosing Serco more appealing?

Nov 16, 2011 darksmiley link
Darn it's one-sided isn't it! There seem to be so many more Itani than Serco, at least according to the graphs!

I'm sure this has come up before but... surely there's a way to balance it a bit more? Maybe do a little questionnaire/poll into why people don't choose Serco, and then try to make them more appealing.. I mean let's face it... if Serco was an actual rase/allegiance from the ground up, they would currently be reworking and reanalyzing their recruitment techniques to swing things in their favour a little more... wouldn't they? :)

Just a thought, thanks guys!

Mike :)

RL: Serco are not "nice" guys... deal with it. Or create another alt...
RP: Gearhead won't reproduce any more, while Smurfs are like bunnies...

hm... one POSSIBLE way to manage this might be to have actual Itani and Serco leaders who get appointed or voted in... who are then in a position where they can try to make their side more tempting than the other.

Might be a bit overkill.... but it WOULD mean that it would give people more of an incentive to go out and promote their side online. For example, Serco members going on youtube and making videos trying to get people to join their side on Vendetta, Itani doing the same... I dunno, just throwing out ideas!

Basically, any way to get more people onto the Serco side would be awesome, but some kind of way to encourage players, sides or leaders to go out into the real world or the real internet world and promote their side might be frickin' amazing for game popularity and traffic, don't you think?

Anyway, I'll shush now before I sound even dumber xD

Alloh - even an evil side would want new recruits. You don't have to be a nice guy to want a bigger army! :o

Personally, when I was creating my character the only things I liked about the idea of being Serco were the Prom and the color red. I didn't like their extreme nationalism at all. The Itani sounded cooler (Jedi) and also had the Valk, which seemed more like the sort of ship I was interested in. But they were blue, and I don't really care for blue. I wound up going with UIT partly because I liked their strong independent streak and the idea of being a space nomad, but mostly because I like the color yellow even more than red (most of the time).

I suspect the Itani are probably the most annoying race to play, due to their long territory, the distance from Itani space to Sedina, and the distance between Sedina and Deneb via Itani-space. Unless you're building a capship. Then they have the proximity advantage over the Serco.

haha yeah it is a long way to travel!

But yeah.. I think improving the appeal of Serco or encouraging people to promote the sides outside of Vendetta would do the game a hell of a lot of good for the future :)

Darksmiley, almost every player in this game have ALTs for each "race" or nation.

Serco are Serco, there are those who identify themselves with gearheads, and become a Red Soul. Others prefer UIT or Itani as main char. And it is good like this. Relax and enjoy nthe ride... try for yourself all three races while keeping your main Serco Alt and have FUN!

It's been said before, but +1 nonetheless.
I would suggest that the ordering of the 3 nations when you create a new character, it should temporarily be inverted, so that it starts with Serco first. Then, after a short period, it should be done randomly.

I'm a fan of random order.

I agree with randomizing the order.

darksmiley, people choose Itani, because VO is American game, it has american oriented universe. This universe us built in american comprehension, so all "red team" members are enemies, even if they are good and they fight against occupants and ugly uit mutants. Read carefully backstory: itani are agressors, they started war, they started henocide of Serco people and our nation, but still devs and "american society" are on the itani/uit side. You can't change this, then you need to change all nation (american+lil friends).

You can accept it or no, it's up to you.. or just live with it, like me and kill them all. Show no mercy.

Yes, I am pirate, but still I am Serco, I know almost all our strategic interests and how to keep space free from yellow mutants and blue henocidal agressors. Why devs give itani or yellows betters stations or equipment and why they keep that unbalanced 'verse for years? Answer is easy: because Itani, UIT, traders, miners are majority and it's their market. Market means money, money means profit and devs will do anything to keep them (and profit) in game, even if the price is to humilate or remove all Serco from the 'verse.

For Lady Serco!

Genocidal maniacs pirren, as far as i know Itani's just have sex with chickens, not kill them

Pirren's fascinating theories have no basis in reality. We had "Red, Yellow, Blue" teams long before we had nations. The colors were just chosen for visual discernability. The application of those colors to the later Serco, Itani and UIT nations was entirely arbitrary. Itani could have just as easily ended up "red", we really didn't care about that.

The "devs" are not on any "side". I wrote the backstory, and I have more Serco alts than Itani. "Incarnate" is Itani because at the time when that character was created (I have character #2), we needed someone on the "Blue" team. That was probably at least 2 years before the "Itani" ever existed, let alone their history.

People go pretty wildly out of their way to invent elaborate explanations for perceived imbalances. Not that there aren't real game imbalances, they just don't stem from some kind of factional bias or nefarious conspiracy.

Most new players don't even read the backstory. They just pick the first nation, because it's first in the list (which is because it's alphabetical). We'll randomize the list order. Moving right along..

I have the 98th character. I chose red because I liked how the ships looked in that color, and to differentiate myself from the guy in the blue ship I always used to duel.
