Put some avalon tubes on cap ship sides
Avast devlubbers!
Why not putting some static avalon tubes on ship sides to make capship duel/battle more fun and requirin' some skillz?
Open Discussion
Ship must be aligned to aim the torpedoes ?
Pilot get some side views small windows on his HUD fer aiming purpose?
Player Pilot may select which tubes or if tubes are manned or control by him when docked?
Tubes can be fired simultaneously or one after one ?
Tube fire sequence / delay set in weapon tab?
Tube targetable / destroyable?
Torpedoes tagetable / destroyable ?
Require add on port to equip or builtin tubes?
Tube limited ammos need to go to reload?
NPC capships in BS equipped by default?
Deneb cover fighters target torpedoes first?
Tubes row arrangement proposal
moth 1 tube each side (just fer fun)
trident 1 row 3 tubes each side
terradon nothing (tis scary enough as it is)
Constellation 2 rows 3 tubes each side
HAC 2 rows 5 tubes each sides
Torpedo Los! salty space dogs!

-1 ... Avalons ae for small ships. Cappies have Capital Guns. From http://vo-wiki.com/wiki/TPG_Teradon_Frigate
BGTWKOA (Big Golden Thing What Kicks Our Asses) anti-capital ship cannons, many capital gauss cannons, and a full compliment of neutron turrets. It should be noted that all of these weapons are capable of detonating incoming ordinance if they hit it.

It's so silly to call it BGTWKOA, It's got a name: "Capital Cannon Hi-Power"
Putting rocket launchers on the sides of the big capital ships wouldnt really do much good since they rarely broadside to fight. If they did, their normal weapons would be plenty effective.

Current BS capship behavior sux.
Quotin' the wiki in a suggestion thread is stupid also (do have i to explain ye why?).
try harder imagine the nice visual effect of an avalon volley board to board instead of boring swarms missiles and gauss guns. XD

Mounting a battery of avalon launchers on HACs and teradons makes sense--let's say 4 salvo-firing tubes mounted forwards on the HAC, and one tube mounted A-10 Warthog style (underslung) on the Teradon's nose. Currently, neither ship is as dangerous to other caps as it should be, and this would allow them to deal more anti-cap damage without overpowering them as to attacking fighters/bombers.
A Teradon and HAC can both de-shield any other capital ship in the game if they only broadsided them turrets ablaze.
Going broadside presents an unacceptably large target area to the foe, and should be reserved as a primary attack for such merchant style cappies as the Trident and Connie. The Teradon's four main guns are already the right idea, but it could use the extra forward-directed firepower of an Avalon. The HAC badly needs a serious forward-directed attack, and a battery of Avalon launchers firing as a unit would work nicely. 6 rather than 4 might be appropriate.
Why not Capital Instakill Beam Gun, like "Star Blazers' Yamato"?
because instakill and resulting < 5sec battles sucks!

Hence the torpedo suggestion, you irrelevant, drooling moron.
BGTWKOA is an obscure reference to Marathon, in case anybody is wondering.
Torpedos on cap ships seem to make sense, whether as centerline weapons or on turrets. I like the idea of Torps being fired in salvos with a long delay in between. To make them practical on a slow moving platform like a cap ship, I think their firing velocity would also have to be increased.
I don't like the idea of giving the Moth additional integrated weaponry.

+1 to the idea of adding something to the Heavy Assault cruiser.

would be cool to have moths overpowered like this lol... ofc if an avalon (at 35m/s) actually hit anything moving and smaller than a cappie then it might be a different story

Forward-facing capvalons. 55 m/s with a 20m prox and 300m splash radius. Get too close to capships that are fighting and you die, which is as it should be.

I like forward-facing rather than broadsides. It would be simpler to implement, and less potential for unexpected issues. We could have the Constellation fire forward avalons at targets. That would certainly.. liven things up. Heh. Make it a bit less of a "big hanging target".

Yes! Because then the connies would have a much better time in forward fights than trying to ram the stupid things to face sidewards for a lot of firepower.

Isn't the Connie a TRANSPORT? So, why add more weapons to it?
For me, Connies should NOT join frontline battles, but remain more as an carrier, upporting the battle/fighters from a safer distance.
As a forward-facing weapon the Avalons become more interesting and logical than "improvised" externally attached tubes... But again, instead of Avalons, just add more capital guns results the same.

Um, no Alloh the results would not be the same. Have you used an Avalon? They have a massive 245m splash radius that annihilates any fighters caught within. We had a furball at Sedina D-14 not long after Avalons came out and I fired a pair at the station. The UTAnnouncer plugin just about had an orgasm, and I wasn't even using the sexy voice. Docking with a capship under bombardment by Avalons would be much more dangerous than docking with one being shot at by normal capital weapons.
As for having Avalons on a heavy transport, it actually makes sense. Avalons don't do anywhere near enough damage to hurt its shields, but they do plenty of damage to light ships. So if a Connie were being swarmed by a bunch of bots who were eating away at the shields, it could just fly up near an asteroid, shoot the asteroid, and watch many of the bots go pop. Though for that use, it would make more sense to be turret mounted than forward facing, so that it could shoot them at multiple asteroids, as a Connie is too big for the splash from just one torpedo to cleanse the whole ship.
But since this is a game, and NPCs are too stupid to use them that way anyway, forward mount 'em!

Yeah NPCs are pretty stupid with rockets and missiles. Just look at the NPC bomber rags who barely use 1/4 of their screamer tubes before they run out of energy. A forward mounted Avalon on Connies might be cool, but if their behavior using them doesn't change, they'd probably just hit an incoming Teradon point-blank repeatedly and help take down their own shields. lol
Teradons already have crazy powerful weapons, and I think the HAC deserves something a bit more fearsome to set it apart from the other ships. It's supposed to be the most powerful battleship in the galaxy. Give it a few forward mounted beam cannons. :)
... except that HAC's rarely actually "target" other capital ships. They tend to hang back anchored in space waiting for the fight to come to them.
