-1. Missing shields is a bug, not a feature.

Leave shields, add avalons.

instead, add shields to player-owned capships, Light moth, etc... and bring in Avalons.
Killing a cappie should not be trivial for fighters, it should required a bomber or coordinated effort from a team.

+1 to Dr. Lecter on this one.

Shields are not the problem. The fact that we have to adapt anti-fighter weapons like Chaos Swarms to killing shields using complex flying techniques IS a problem. In a galaxy with energy shields and so much war involving shielded ships, there would have been weapons designed to take down shields.

Stacking isn't exactly a complex technique. Now, if missile speeds were additive so that you had to accelerate the entire time and fire at the correct times and distances so that all missiles arrived at the same moment despite each volley flying at a different velocity, then it would be a complex technique.

And no, the fact that newbies have trouble with it does not qualify a medium-low technique as being complex; rather it qualifies the newbies as being newbies.

Not that I have anything at all against bringing back avalons and giving player capships shields.

You're not going to hit a Trident at full-turbo unless you jump ahead of it and come at it from the front. They can outrun Chaos Swarms pretty well. At least the ones in Deneb do. The convoy Tridents are usually slower.

Either way, Swarms are anti-fighter weapons. Give us some real bombs/torpedos. The shields aren't the problem.

-1 to removing shields. BUT make trident 1k-2k cargo (someone in hauler thread said this), add avalons, and you've got incentive to kill these buggers.
