New constructable cargo ship

Hi.
I think VO needs a bigger cargo ship and I have a design that I've made in Google SketchUp. I named the ship HCV $5 (Heavy Cargo Vessel $5).

The vessel should be constructable and I've made a list of items that should be required to build it. I've also invented a new item, a turbo system. This should also be constructable and I've made a list of items for it too. Below is the ship stats and the list of items. I also got some pictures of it uploaded to “http://imageshack.us/”. +1 to the concept.

Dual powercells is something that needs to be addressed on a different level, in a different thread. I'd leave it at 55 e/s and one powercell for now, and fix that later, along with other cappies.

Also, the materials list is a bit odd.

First I thought of using a reactor but since this ship is smaller and making a reactor is not that fun I used 2 power cells instead. Btw a Trident have 2 80MW engines so maybe just 1 power cell couldn't power both engines? But sure it could only need 1 power cell.

I chose the items based on it's description in VO.

Thrust is too small, Turbo likewise.
Armor should be at least 100k.
That thing will get nowhere, like handling a 500,000 kg mothXC.
Even then I'd choose the XC.

Sure it could have more thrust. I'm new to designing ships so I looked at other ships and took some stats from there.

If it will have more armor then the cargo hold maybe will have to be smaller too and the thing about this ship is to have as big cargo hold as possible. But it can be discussed.

It needs more armor because what you have looks like a cappie; it couldn't really be anything else with the cargo size. I'd say 200k and half a trident's shields, as well as thrust and turbo.

I am just going to say +1 to the idea of SOMETHING between a Behemoth and a Trident. The Trident should have a cargo capacity of 1000 or 2000 imho. There should be a ship half the size of a Trident with a cargo capacity of 600-1200.

+1 to a new ship between a Behemoth and a Trident, focused on cargo... a sort of "mini-connie" mixed with a "super-moth"...

the ideal plataform for mining operations, freighting, etc. in two versions:
-Military: armed.with 3L1s3T and 400cu cargo and docking bay for two ships.
-Freighter: unarmed but 800cu cargo and single ship docks

Other "required" stats:
Ports: 3L 1s 3T / none
Cargo: 400cu / 800cu
Thrust: Same for both, so a loaded freighter is much slower than an equally loaded 'military' version

The game does need some "Freighters and Scows" like the ones mentioned in the capship part missions that don't yet exist.

+1 with some refinement. :)

hhmmm... as the Marauder was supposed to be?

I'd like both:
-a new freighter ship, near the size of a Trident but focused in cargo/mining as OP, and
-a "space train" mode for Marauders, when you can add/drop cargo modules and tow up to 150cu (becoming slower than a moth)

To make things easier for the devs they can just make the existing Trident smaller so it can dock at regular stations and remove the docking bay. And of course change the stats.

I don't like the idea of making the Trident smaller. If that occured there would then be a massive size difference between the Trident and the next largest ship. There is already a VERY GOOD suggestion from CD on a method to allow the Trident to "dock" at any station, by hailing the station and requesting repairs/goods/etc... I think the scale for a NEW ship should be something like:



I also think that if it is purchaseable it should be VERY expensive. Like 10 million credits or more.

I forgot to mention that I really like Alloh's idea of the "space train". Maybe 2 Marauders could be connected to the "train" so it will move faster. One in the front (pulling and steering) and one in the end (pushing).

I like your suggestion too mulle barap.

Space Train is not my idea. That was suggested before and it is present in Mauds' design from scratch. Those 3 attached modules should become really modular, simply allowing to attach more 3 or 6 modules...

While Mulle filled the gap!

Though a proper train like I proposed isn't really appropriate for the way VO's universe is divided into sectors. If each system were open, without being divided into independent sectors that require jumps to travel between, it would work better. It would be weird for a three mile long train to warp into a system, fly 3km out, and then warp away. Though if each car in the train warped separately (and automagically warped into place on the other side), it could be pretty sweet... But yeah, proper trains are mostly wishful thinking.

Maud-trains are another story, as those would be much smaller than a proper train.
