Per Station Preset Option
So, instead of a universe wide 4 preset option, why not make it 4 presets per station.
Because some things just aren't available in EVERY station.
Also give the option to name it.

I'm not saying this is a bad idea. It's perhaps more than I ever really need, but that's besides the point. The current ship preset information is limited, partly i think because of the original choice to store the preset data in the config.ini. If they were to expand this to encompass a default set and a specific set for each station, this would quickly make the config.ini bloated.
I suppose if they were to add a config file specifically for presets, and perhaps store it in the settings directory for the current character, this could be doable.
Being able to name your presets would certainly help with remembering what is in a specific preset.
To expand the suggestion a little, it would be useful if each preset could be checked against the current stations available goods (both for purchase and in cargo) and made unavailable if it can't be fulfilled, or at least pop up a dialog indicating this fact.
I haven't looked into ship preset customization via the Lua API, but it might be possible to create this functionality through a plugin.

But if the changes were only added when a preset is made for a station, it would take a long time to fill up. How many stations do you actually buy ships from? If someone did take the time to fly round and create presets for every station in VO, they deserve a bloated config file. :)

Aye but have you tried the Find function of your computer lately draug? It surely can't be that hard.
There has long been a plugin for this, meridian/Chocolateer made it. You can customize up to 16 (?) presets.
Again, there is a nice plugin that does what game client should do...

+1 to integrate SLM plugin functions into regular game client.

That would be great!

Yes, ShipLoadoutsManager does everything suggested in this thread. Presets can be named, and up to 4 can be assigned uniquely to each station. There is no limit to the total number of presets you can have, and you can even purchase presets not assigned to the station through a console command or using the gui.
To address Yoda's point, the same preset can be added to multiple stations. And if you don't assign a preset to a station, there are 4 defaults that are used (the 4 that would exist without use of the plug-in).
It also checks preset availability at the current station, making it easy to only assign presets that are available at that station. You can also search for presets with a given ship or addons. The first screenshot has an example of this.
Alloh posted the correct link, but I'll post it again: http://www.vendetta-online.com/x/msgboard/16/23735

Aye thanks Choco. I'll see how it goes :)
It's pretty handy.
Oh, something that struck me while using this beautiful plugin of yours Choco:
A great improvement would be if you had an option to assign a setup not only to a single station, but to all stations of a faction. As in, I can buy my CorVult setup at every Corvus station once I set it up in Sedina D-14 and clicked "Save as faction-wide loadout". Same for, say RevCs at Orion or WTDs at UIT. I think the API contains a function to determine the faction alignment of a station.
If that is too much work, an option to import a loadout from another station would rock as well.
+1 to include the functions in the game.
I just realised this might the wrong spot for suggestions for the plugin. Ah, nevermind, it might get more attention here than at the plugin's original post...

I had toyed with the ability to assign loadouts remotely, but the lua API can only check what is sold by the current station. Therefore, the only way to verify a loadout is available at a given station is to require the player to be there when they assign it.
It is fairly easy to reuse a loadout from one station at another, but that might not be obvious if you never use the GUI. Also possible from the command line (you just have to be at the station you are assigning it to): /slm assign 1 AndyCorVult.
Also note that while you can determine the faction of a given station through the API, it does not provide a list of all stations in the game. So a list of known stations would have to be included as part of the plug-in, which would cause the list to be incomplete as new stations are added (like how StationFind doesn't work for the conq stations since they were added after its most recent version).
Please post any additional suggestions for the plug-in at the plug-in's thread as it keeps them consolidated in one location

I love SLM I have been using it for a few weeks, got all my preferred ships in their specific locations set up
