Bankable hours vs Subscription

Hi Everyone,

I've just started playing Vendetta and am loving it so far. I haven't even used up all of my 8 trial hours and I've been playing for a little over 3 weeks. Life just keeps getting in the way of my gaming :)

Once my trial is up I will have to subscribe to the game, paying a fee whether I get the time to play or not. It would suit me better and I imagine a whole lot of people like me if I could pay for say 10 hours as a block and use them up as I get time to play. I could then happily work my way through the hours over a few months.

I understand that this payment model could leave some accounts with 1 hour left that is never used up taking up space on the servers but that could be solved easily by making the bankable hours expire after a suitably long time. Perhaps a 1 year use by date on bankable hours.

What do you think? Would it be possible to offer bankable hours as an alternative payment model as well as the subscription model?

Hello and welcome to VO Sin-bad,

It's good to hear you are enjoying Vendetta, it is a truly unique and memorable experience.

I believe that the reasons this model has not been adopted is less that there is not enough space on the server and more that the devs have gotta eat. Being able to project income vs expense based on monthly subscriptions sounds a heck of a lot more stable than income based on hourly usage. This is good not only for the devs but for any potential outside investors.

My suggestion is to enjoy Vendetta for what it is. If you end up subscribing then great and welcome again. If not then take those 8 hours with you and help us to spread the word. Vendetta is tiny at present; if you try describing it to someone on the street most likely they will think you are talking about Eve. At this point you can tell them "no, no Eve is that game where you set your character on autopilot and let him do all the work, Vendetta is an awesome first-person twitch MMO that's about ten times more fun to play."

I can understand wishing for an hourly rate, especially if you spread out your time that far, however you could also look at it as if you ever do find yourself spending more time diving in it won't cost you an extra penny.

Disk usage on the server would be trivial.

The subscription fee is only $10 per month, and even less if you buy many months at once. Yes, you might not get as much bang for your buck as somebody who plays constantly. But even if you only play two hours per month, that's still cheaper than going to the movies once (assuming you buy popcorn) - and you then have the option of playing even more if you feel like it, for no additional cost.

If you have to think hard about $9.99/month, it's time to reevaluate your life priorities: stop playing VO, go work at getting your broke ass above the poverty line.

-1 to OP. What's the problem in 10 bucks/month? It's less than one pizza. I am sure you eat more everyday.

I think it's mainly kids and college students who see it as being expensive, since they don't have time for full-time jobs and might not even have time for part-time jobs. Any subscription tends to feel expensive when you don't have income coming in to counter it.

The trick is, rather than thinking "this is an extra $10 I have to spend every month", think in terms of "this is an extra $10 that I need to earn/save every month". Volunteer to mow somebody's lawn, rake leaves, shovel snow, help with their homework, drive them somewhere, whatever. It's just once a month, and it's stuff you can do even as a kid (well, maybe not the driving part). No huge time commitment like a job would have. If you are a kid, you can even just ask you parents, "Hey, do you have any extra chores I could do for $10?" Good way to make 'em think your responsible and crap. (Unless you're in a very poor family where such a request would be like stabbing your mother. In that case, please don't stab your mother. Go ask a known respectable neighbor who has more disposable income, preferably a neighbor who doesn't have kids of his own to assign chores to.)

Another way, if you're the sort of person who keeps your hair short and are not very self-conscious, is to buy clippers and cut your own hair. They pay for themselves in like two haircuts. After that, your haircuts are free. How much you save depends on how often you get it cut - I only got mine cut three times a year so I don't save anything (my reasons were more to do with being a hermit and DIYer than money-saving), but a person who cuts his hair every other month would save the bulk of a VO subscription - or all of it, if they buy enough months at a time.
