Player gathering missions
This was in response to a thread that don661? had posted, but I decided it was a different enough idea as to take up a whole new thread. The wording is written as a reply, sorry if it seems a little weird alone, it's 12:30 and I don't feel like rewriting it. The basic idea is for a player posted mission in-game for the gathering of an item.
"I think a different take on this could be done in a way that is very balanced and should make every reasonable* person happy.
There would only be one type of mission and that would be gathering. I think the best way to explain this would be to outline the format for how the mission would be posted.
1) Sector or system based? The mission creator would choose whether they wanted the goods delivered to one particular station, or just any station within a system. System based would have a pro as any station somebody went to they could see your mission, but the items might be scattered around a system when the mission is completed. Sorry if my terminology is off, it's been 7 months since I last played.
2) Type of item? Which type of item you want gathered.
3) Payment per item? How much money the gatherer would get per item.
4) Number of items? You want x of the item.
5) Minimum deposit(optional)? Do you want to set a minimum number of the item to be retrieved.
6) Length of time? How long you want the mission to last.
I think this system would work out quite nicely because any pirate activity wouldn't result in the mission creator losing any of the goods he already owned. This could also be a way to help new players or players short on money to make more than some other traditional missions. Also, restrict the mission from being cancelled by the creator if somebody has accepted the mission regardless of whether or not they're online. The cargo that the gatherers deposited for the mission would automatically be transferred to the mission creators hold.
*VO consists of a majority of reasonable people, but that's only a 51% majority ;)"

Pirren, I think you misunderstood him. We would still be able to pirate the guy hauling the goods. He just meant that the person hauling the goods has to go out and obtain them himself, rather than being given the goods by the mission creator and being told where to take them. That means that pirate interference with the mission would involve theft from the person running the mission, not from the person who created the mission.

Yep, thanks Pizza. Sorry if the post was incoherent, it was a late night.
