w/e you guys say... even if it's $250 it must help the devs...
yeah well it's an idea, and an idea if that it could actually happen, a productive one at any time.
I have, though I've been short on cash lately. I'll start donating again once the cash starts rolling in.
I'd donate, but I don't have credit-card access.
I think it would be somewhat humorous to put in fake, slapstick ads. Like...oh...lets see, Dicken's Cider banner for instance. (If you don't get it, say the company name a few times)
Yeah. Let's put book promotions for
Under the Bleachers by Seymour Butts
The Yellow River by I.P. Freeley
or even
Spots On The Wall by Hu-Flung Dung
if we want to be really "clever"
:P

Simple facts about online advertising. As soon as Guild gets an company willing to pay for advertisement in the game monthly fee in theory should go down attracting more players other companys see that their products can be view by alot of people due to dropped prices and they advertise,so fees get cheaper attracting more people. down side is you have to prepare for the mass of people meaning work, work costs money. Now you know a general understanding of online advertising.
We did back in 2003 also.

real ads would destroy the ingame roleplaying.
as good as pepsi is, i highly doubt that they brought enough of it across the first WH to Terra II... since that WH closed, they would have to reproduce it. and it is 4000 some odd years after that date.
ads for Sedina Chocolates, or TPG flight training classes would work... but keep in mind that waylonics is the script ingame.... so even if the "real world" ads were implimented, what company in their right mond would pay for ads that no one can read? (without GTS aid)

There could be banner ads around the edge of the game screem once the devs find someone willing to pay for one.
what it really comes down to is;
are you willing to pay $10 USD/mo. to be bombarded by ads?
fuck that, i spend enough money on their product as it is without buying their ads too.

a good logo can be read in any language, just look at the chinese coca-cola logo's for example. Brand recognition.
Personally I woulden't mind rl ads in the more commercial parts of space (eg Dau) as long as they are in gts. Adds to the experience of a populated world.

Aren't there companies that would pay money to have someone fill out a survey. The devs could work out a system for a player to earn credicts this way. Also check out this website to see how it earns money.

Please, some Dev, would you pretty please go on record and say "Hell no" to this?
Sure, it would probably be OK for fr00bs (check out the Anarchy Online forum for what a fr00b is), but I'm a paying customer.
I'd rather pay more than get real-world ads.

I say "Hell No" to ingame ads for real "OOG" products. Although I'm not a dev.
Ads for ingame products like Sedina Chocolates would make a lot of sense. I'd be happy to work on some of the ad graphics for that stuff.

Ok, I've already posted my opinion about this on a previous thread, but I'll say it again.
Depending on advertising for a movie production, or a musical stuff, or any cultural creation, or, ... a game, means that if the sponsors want the content/overall line to be changed so that they get more audience, they have the power to make it change.
I *don't* want any real world trade mark to come one day and say 'oh, you people at Guild Software don't generate enough feedback to satisfy our shareholders , so here is the new soundtrack for your game, its the latest teen band hit, that'll get more people to your game. By the way, you'll have to change your ships to those Honda models if you want us to continue to support your project."
This is already the case in too many movies, and it totally destroys any hope of freedom in choices for the directors.
Ads bind creators to the willing of financial organisations, and as such tend to lead the productions to the low level uniformized content that allready surrounds us everyday in our real lifes.
VO is an original project and has its own specificity, thats part of the reason why I joined and keep playing, I really don't want to see this beeing sold to the major's steamroller.
Second point, it would anihilate immersion in a futuristic role play environment, by introducing anachronism and lacks of homogeneity in the backstory. I'm not playing VO to be reminded real life. On the other hand, ads for Sedina chocolates and other VO universe related stuff would be real great, would they be written in GTS.
Would it be necessary to use sponsoring, I'd appreciate it to be kept in the areas of website, boxes packaging and eventually splash screen.

Hi, this is my first post here, I actually believe RL adds could be interesting to have. I played this game for the demo time, It is interesting to try and to play with.
But, to stay in the subject of this thread, the signs and advert you see in front of the space stations are totally uninteresting and unexciting, having stuff like Coca Cola or other things we tend to see everyday would be somehow fun...
If not maybe add some interesting adds with video clips or some sound as least. When in the station or next to the add we could hear some adds from time to time, even some fake ones with different themes depending on the solar system, the time, the station and so on...
Also if the developers are afraid of loosing control of their project there is always the solution of hooking into an adds company which provides the rewarded service.
Also the game could open the url of the add in the background when a player passes through the add.
Just some random thoughts.

you suck
How mature.
I wouldn't mind seeing coka-cola ads ingame, or stuff like that (people paying to have their item as cargo? AKA, pepsi widgets?)
As long as it doesn't intrude, it actually would add to RP value if it is tastefully done.
Still, we need 10000 people first.

Yeah, let's wait until the corporations come crawling to VO, saying to the devs: "Pleeeeease take our money! We need to advertise to your millions of subscribers!"
