NPC's
Hi, first off, let me tell you I'm new to this game, just started playing a couple of days ago.
I've been playing other space games as well (X3, Freelancer anyone?) and here, the controls are really good, however, I would like to see that changes in controls are made a bit easier. Instead using /bind every time to unbind a key, just clicking the desired change in the options menu and then selecting the desired key would be enough.
And now a suggestion when logged in and playing the game:
What I would love to see are friendly NPC's flying around in at least sectors which have a station. And if they meet someone who has a really bad standing with the faction, decide to attack that player immediately.

Welcome aboard.
There are already 2+ guards around every station. Probably we should increase the number of guards according to importance/size ot station, like capitals have 9 guards (there are 3 now, 2 guards + 1 marshall), and barracks stations should also allways have a capship orbiting station.

Yeah, and those guards do attack people they don't like. If you shoot and hit anything within the NFZ, or if you become hated or kill-on-sight with the faction owning the station, they will come after you.
As for unbinding keys, you can do that in the gui - just hover over the one you want to unbind and press backspace. Or maybe it's delete, I can't remember. One of those two anyway will clear it out.
If, knowing the above, you would still prefer that binding a new key to a command would clear the old key, consider this: it can be very useful to have multiple keys/buttons bound to the same command. That is one of the things I really like about Vendetta compared to other games that only let you have one key per command. It makes things easier if you have multiple input devices that you switch between rather than only keyboard/mouse. For example, I can bind a command to a button on my mouse and also to a button on my joystick, so that I can use either one without having to mess with the binds each time I switch. I can literally switch in the middle of a fight, with the only interruption to the fighting being that moment while my hand is in transition. No need to open a menu to tell the game what I'm doing or anything.

I actually agree with Tuasoni23. I just started playing this game because I've been looking for a great space game like Freelancer (which I played on my old PC), but I currently have a Mac. This game definitely fits the bill, but upon logging in it feels dead.
There are very few NPCs flying around anywhere, and interaction with them is nil. Why can't there be more guards flying around the station and why can't they scan you to see if you have any illegal commodities onboard or something? Why aren't there more people flying to and from stations? They are the hubs in the galaxies. They should be busy. Why can't there be missions that involve guarding convoys or individual NPCs? Where are all the pirates (NPCs) that want me to drop my loot or just kill me for my cargo? I've run into one pirate (Player) and one enemy on my cargo hauling missions so far and I've done quite a few of them so far.
The bottom line in all my rambling is I think the game would benefit from having more NPCs flying around of all varieties. If they could interact with you, that would be the bees knees as well.

"Why can't there be missions that involve guarding convoys"
There already are. They are called escort missions. You just can't take or see them until you reach combat level 3. There aren't any scripted enemies that attack them, but there are players who may interfere. There are some other missions that do involve enemies attacking though, it just isn't a part of the typical and widespread "escort" missions.
You are right that the game would be nicer with more (and more interactive) NPCs. Pretty much everybody will agree with that. The devs already know this however, and they intend to increase the number of them eventually.

That's good to know!
I forgot to add the part about me not being far enough yet, but maybe that's a wall keeping new players from getting hooked?
Well, we'll just have to see what the devs do with it. Thanks for the reply!

I like the idea of more NPCs flying around. Though it's suggested many times before.
Greater density of NPCs has been planned for some time. There's a tradeoff, that you don't want too many to be flying around, and causing problems for people on slower machines. But we definitely want more traffic in capitols, and other large stations.
on the subject of slower machines.
is it possible to have 2 graphically distinct versions? meaning a "pretty" version for new PC's and macs
and a primitive version for portables and ancient machines. Now, I know all of nothing about the subject, but in theory is it feasible to create a stripped down version of VO that looks like it was made in 95 or so?
On the subject of this here thread, by what factor is the NPC density planned to increase?

No need:
