Toggle turbo thrust

Apr 02, 2011 jamesbuhls link
I think it would be a great idea to add the option for players to toggle the turbo thrust. Navigating through mine fields or just getting away from a station to the jump point over, and over, and over can get tiring on the fingers when one has to constantly hold down the turbo button. I think the option to toggle turbo would be a great change.

you can turbo toggle, by setting up an alias & bind

Just setup a bind in your wgaf.ini file

to get a clue, check out http://vo-wiki.com/wiki/Binds - you're looking for the turbo-toggle bind.

[Edited to be less standoffish - point taken, Eddy]

Geez, get off the button there, Eddy.

[edit: thanks]

I tried the bind / alias you suggested, Ed, and it didn't work. Actually, it worked once: I launched from a station, pushed the turbo button, and turbo activated... and then it wouldn't stop. No other button would slow my ship or cause turbo to disengage. When I jumped to another sector, turbo wouldn't work again - somehow the key I use for turbo was un-bound from that command, and when I re-bound it to turbo the toggle-turbo bind / alias you showed me didn't work anymore.

I have taken the bind described at http://vo-wiki.com/wiki/Turbo_lock_bind and created a file version of it.

Download turbo_lock.cfg and place this file into the vendetta directory that contains wgaf.cfg.

Then log into the game and type: /load turbo_lock.cfg
Now quit the game safely and login again.

In addition to setting up the requisite aliases, the commands in this file will also execute:
/bind Tab ttog
/bind Enter acti

I spent a few minutes to look at how the binds were written and I managed to write my own alias / binds to get the desired effect, but I still think it would be a great feature for the game programmers to write into the game (so that new players wouldn't have to learn alias / binds and veterens wouldn't have to keep installing or changing what they already have.)

Making this an option built into the game might save us dozens of threads and questions about turbo toggle.

+1 to make TurboLock a DEFAULT feature.

I simply cannot play without it, and I doubt any serious player can. And 11 ot of 10 newbies would love to have it too. This is definitly one one most requested "optional" features.

And as is, it really favours Vets (who has tons of bindsplugins) and make newbie's life even worse!

I agree, there should be some form of a toggleable turbo command built in, but not pre-bound to Tab. Then if a user wants it bind it to Tab or some other key, they can do so through the controls menu or via the /bind command. Having a normal non-locking turbo is useful for combat, and combat buttons need efficient easy-to-reach keys more than general travel buttons do.
