Nation Specific Textures for Non-TGP Ships
I realize this includes a majority of the ships available. But the ones that I think should be focused on are the Centurion, Vulture and Ragnarok. These are the non-nation specific ships most commonly encountered in mixed company. I won't add much, but I think I could add just enough. I believe only 2 new textures would be needed, one for Serco and one for Itani. Leaving the basic texture for UIT. I remember Inc saying that it didn't take too much time (but I am also known for a fuzzy memory). He has also talked about specific textures in the past. Just like the vults, this will no effect the stats or collision models or pretty much anything other than just a bit of diversity.
My reasoning for only the non-TPG ships is that TPG is selling ships to all factions, while the other ships are being build in house elsewhere.
[EDIT!: SUBJECT TITLE FAIL!]

Neat idea!
Example: You'd figure a Centurion IBG would look at least somewhat different than a Rev.C They're made on different sides of the galaxy.

Could this be a potential project for the PCC? Topic started there as well.
Anything to bring visual diversity to our extremely limited selection of ships.

Like, UIT Atlas remain whole white, Serco Atlas becomes reddish, and Itani Atlas gets a "blue sky" look!
Defintly, even changes as simple as base textures colors! Diversity!

if any one is interested in taking a stab, this post by spuck is pretty helpful. My computron knowhow is limited though (by my laziness), hopefully you can have better luck.
Reading that post by spuck, I imagined an alternative:
We could have something as the mediaVPS for FreeSpace. An optional enhancement with higher requirements. It only changes visuals, as textures and animations.
So, we could have a PCC-made package with alternative visuals (textures/FX). Those resources should be submitted just like PCC missions, and package would be assembled and distributed by GS, with approved items.
Then, who have better HW can download a huge package and improve visuals, while general gameplay remains the same.
Incarnate, would this be possible / desirable ?

Ressurecting a not-so-old topic, but a most deserved one.
By a sanctioned content package, optional, we could improve a lot the visuals without breaking the code or growing too much the installation package. Absolutely no change in gameplay.
Just a quick example of what MediaVPS package does for game VISUAL:
This is the ORIGINAL ship, without mediaVPS:
Then, whoever wants, can download a 'media Visual Pack fileS' and the same ship become this:
One can even remove the mediaVPS and game resume using original visuals, since they are stored in different directories. The game checks for mediaVPS presence to decide what visuals to render...
Incarnate, feasible? As a long-term, community-driven project?
