Enable more than 2.1 sound in VO?
Yeah, sure, stereo sound is fine, but USB headphones like these http://www.vendetta-online.com/x/msgboard/4/24047 fail to work because drivers are crap and do not do down/up-mixing properly. The 7.1 headphones I have (some promotion crap from Enta Group UK) do not work with VO. I guess it's like a 7.1 headset, USB 2.0 and 3.0 compliant, yet I just cannot get it working with VO.
Like above it does not have an option in Windows to switch to a 2.1 signal, it expects a 5.1 or 7.1 surround sound signal, or tries to upmix a Stereo signal. For some reason this fails in VO.

I have 2 shitty laptop speakers, but +1 for sure! I would love to enjoy some 7.1 at some point in the future.
bump due to the amount of new people reporting *no sound* on chat, that are running 5.1 + setups!
man furballs would sound awesome if you could hear the weapons/turbo/engines/explosions/warping in all directions
+1,
Very good idea. Myself i have 7+2 untypical setup and i would love to hear the ships actually passing behind me.
For now, all the speaker work, but they only play either from the left or the right side.

We still haven't been able to figure out why this is failing in Windows for certain devices. Ray wrote a bunch of specific support for this, to solve the problem; clearly we need some more testing hardware to figure out what's going on.
If someone could suggest a specific USB headphone set that we could go and buy and use for testing, that would be helpful. At least to debug the main issue. Supporting actual surround sound goes beyond that, but we can look into that down the road.
