Hive Shield Bonus

Jan 20, 2011 Kierky link
On Hive Transport Ships, give a shield 10000 base capacity, where the Hive presence in the sector adds an extra 3000 capacity to the transport's shield. The recharge would be 3700/s.

Stats good? idk :P

-1 as is
UNLESS you increase the size of transport bots to half a trident, to justify the shields it must be a 'capital bot'

No, it doesn't, Alloh. Where did that rule come from?

10k base is good, recharge is good for newbs (can be breached by neuts I know, maybe HX). There can be a lot of bots in a sector, though. Increasing it 3000 cap per 20% of the sectors average bot count might be better, max 25k capacity.

Why, RP-wise, can't we have shields on fighters and moths?
-Ship size!

As VO is now, it requires a capital ship to hold shields. Just look the ridiculous storage of tridents and connies and you will realize that shield generators must be HUGE....
Then notice that transport bots are smaller than Overseers, or behemoths...

So, since we can't add shields to a Moth since it is too small for it, neither should be possible to add shields to existing transport bots. Unless the hive breeds a new oversized transport, what seems a natural evolution. And natural like a mining equipament and the transport trucks.

And a fun and worthy target: a weak shields, large size, slow, and heavily loaded transport bot.

Ahem. Notice that these shields are one tenth the strength of typical Trident shields, and that the Trident is not ten times the size of the typical transport. Also, Overseers have 80,000 armor. They don't need shields. Behemoths are cargo, cargo, cargo. For 80cu more, the XC trades all it's weapon and turret ports, 1/3rd of it's engine capability, and half it's armor. They're truly packed. Transports have what, 1-2 weapons, 40-80 cargo capacity, and are 50-75% the size of behemoths?
