Tools for Events
I am thinking that several types of events could use some sort of boundry markers or walls and goal posts.
Two basic tools are needed. A Wall widget and a goal widget.
The wall widget would project a curtain of blue light to a second widget and announce whenever a player crossed it while briefly glowing red. The host should be able to set a square area up by simply stating the 3 dimensions for the playing field with options for which sides have barriers and which dont for construction of more complex shapes.
The goal area would be a short tube like the ones used at the race tracks in small medium and large sizes.

This is EXACTLY what we need! This would open up so many more ideas for events! Superb suggestion!
Give the host of the event (if they submitted through the event system) access to this whenever they want before the event.

VO really needs more periodic events. Things like Nation Wars should be automated and integrated into mission system.
CrazySpence and I have proven it is possible, and practical, to use the mission system to create event scripts. Very few details are missing, like availability and start/end date for mission, and, instead of the legend of Guides, we should have Host: event-focused "guide", who can take with the "Event Host Mission". This is the simplest requirement, just a tag, or that "Accomplishment" we already can request to exist to enable mission.
(PCC members can check missions 1569 and 1598+(1599,1604,1605))
The events also should be entirely automated. If no host is present, event runs as a simple scripted mission. When a host is present, (s)he can take the host mission and deploy NPCs, give prizes, start sub-events, or add border markers...
Back to OP, implement this as "Laser Signalling Buoys", that can be deployed using PCC mission editor using relative coords. Each buoy pair will extend a (harmless) laser beam between them, and option to link 4 buoys and create a "light wall". And when the host deploys a central buoy, the game engine deploys all other ones relative to this one.
As goal, I would prefer to use a parked trident's dock bay, relating to above, it spawns and move to its coords relative to central buoy.

I was already thinking about hoe to make life easier to someone, who is planning to entertain others. It starts with little plot, like whining to sector/system chat for help ... and immediately you end up with ideas, which cannot be done without proper tools. This can be step in the right direction.

I think VO's events already have plenty of tools.

The tools, exactly as specified, might not be trivial to implement. But we can probably do some variation on the theme.
We have been working on various event-driven toolsets, with the idea of letting Guides or involved users have more options available. Right now they mostly involve spawning of bots in certain ways, but there's certainly more we can do with trigger zones of various types.
