Move adds from stations to WH's

Dec 04, 2010 FistOfRage link
Once you are at a station you are what retailers call, a captive audience. At this point the only adds you will see will be among competing brands.

Put the adds at the wh's (ie. billboards along the highway) where they belong.

Better yet, make them dynamic so that they have changing messages.

AD fistofrage, ADS.
add is to sum quantities, ad is to promote a product ;)

Yes - because the whole "Billboard in space at the Wormhole" isn't done to death in EVE.

If you do this, please for the love of cheddar restrain it to nation space, perhaps only UIT space. I figure the Itani are too aesthetically minded to allow such an atrocity, and the Serco too proud - other than their government propaganda I suppose. The UIT on the other hand would have no problem with it in their space.

As for Greyspace, signs would get blown into tiny little bits faster than they could be erected, so it ought to be free of signs. Unless, that is, they were to be made destructable. In that case they could behave like the dynamic hive, spreading out over time from the borders of UIT space into the depths of Grey, only to be eradicated by good samaritans like myself. You can't take the sky from me!

I'd rather they just stick to station sectors though. We have enough freaking ads everywhere we go in real life. I like them in stations, that's just neat. But away from the stations it would just be ugly.

In general anyway. Putting some signs up along, say, the border wormholes would be marginally acceptable. "You are now entering Itani Space. Welcome." But the generic inter-system wormholes don't need to be defaced by billboards.

Heh. I should know better.

Anyways, don't have a clue about Eve.

I could totally see this in UIT space, especially Dau. It'll add to the corporate/capitalist culture that the UIT is supposed to have, much the same way that the SMV Nemesis patrol shows off the Serco's military.

I have to agree with abortretryfail...
+1 to this ONLY in UIT, maybe at border WHs, you are entering ________ Nations Space.

What about political dogma and military type ads in Serco & Itani.

Though I think the ads would do well for much of Grey, particularly Sedina & Odia

ads in UIT space should litter (literally) most of the WH areas, as corporations have no regard to "aesthetic beauty" of space (whatever that may be). kinda like 80's and 90's sci fi movies of urban cities.

Grey should have some ads for lucrative items of questionable legality (corvus chocolates).

Serco and Itani should have some trader oriented messages at their uit interface WH's (jallik and the two in secro space). Itani should welcome traders and bid them honorable fortune. Serco should have a warning or sort.

+1 to WH ads, but not "Move", instead "add ads to WH".

"Come visit our SALE at X-89! Cheapest upgrades!"

Preferably, animated ones, with a destructable projector ship. Almost like the goodyear blimp, but projecting the ads nearby.

Use CLEAR TEXT, english, with some GTS ideograms as illustration. Captions would foster comprehension of GTS to a wider audience!

It also can be used to advertise events, missions, sales, etc.

Make ads really easy to update frequently, automated. "Don't forget Nation War today" and "We're hiring escorts for CtC" seems logical consequences...

Bill board space in cities is highly regulated. You can not just put up a bill board anywhere or you will be fined, and the bill board will be removed. You must obtain a bill board permit. The permits insure that bill boards do not overcrowd an area. Minimum distances are required between billboards.

Bill boards in VO should be destructible, and expensive. I like the idea of projector ships. But they should be very expensive. Even players should be able to purchase, place, and set the text on projector ships. Say 1mil for signage area the size of the side of a moth?

Destroying signage bots in nation space could carry faction standing penalties. Placing signage bots in faction space without a permit could also carry faction standing penalty.

Obtaining a permit may be the only part of this that exists in the real world. I'm sorry, but I've seen far to many highways and cities that look like crap because the above does not happen.

+1 to Destructable. +1 to ships (but I'd go with mini turrets myself) +1 player / guild ownership - though now that I think of it, is there really ANYTHING a guild can actually do that does not require its members doing it for it? I mean there is the guild bank which is virtually useless. Guild storage would actually be useful. Meh whatever.

+ 1 to penalties though I'd love to see the strike force launched to destroy any unlicensed signs and make the player temp KOS until they leave nation space.

*General:
-Player purchases a Blimp (ad projection "barge") and writes its text. It also gives one "tow beam" that player uses to maneuver the blimp. It lasts until gets destroyed or "mined".
-If parked away from wormholes or stations, it will drift away and then "warp away" if abandoned.
-Price: 1Mc in Grayspace, more in nations. Limited to one active per player (alt)

For Gray space:
-Each WH would have 1 or 2 ad ships (Blimp) for every "local" faction
-Any player can "tow and park" a blimp near any WH OR Conquerable Station
-No faction penalties for damaging any blimps

For Nation space:
-Only sanctioned blimps allowed. Any 'pirate' blimp will be destroyed and its owner will be "fined" as faction hit.
-Local POS are allowed to operate one blimp per nation. Prices varies with location/demand.
-Destruction of sanctioned blimps results in faction hit and temp KoS.

Maybe an option to vandalize signs, ala "Zombies ahead!" and such.

As for language, GTS all the way. Having a bunch of English signs littering space would be beyond lame.

Idea for positioning signs: You take a mission, which asks you to pay for the sign. You are then given a "sign drone" ship and launched out of the station and can fly like a normal ship. Once you've moved it into position (using f9 to check it out), you go into your mission tab and click the "I'm finished" option, which returns you to the station (leaving the sign drone in place). Later, you can reposition it by taking a "manage my signs" mission where you would be placed back inside the ship.

Actually, it could just spawn the drone directly into whatever sector you're placing it in, and have the "Jump" key warp your conciousness back to the station (thus not allowing you to jump the drone away from the sector you got the permit for).
