... GTS to English translation tab!
Step 1. A simple tab in the comms section that when hit, would translate GTS to English.
Step 2. Make the adverts outside stations more relevant by adding station names, maybe a news/info ticker or player created adverts... etc... etc...
Step 3.
Step 4. PROFIT!

+1!
Wow... this is a great idea! Ryan sure is great! If this made it in game I have no doubt that millions of people would start playing VO! Also, there would be world peace and hippies wouldn't smell as bad! Dogs and cats would become friends, disease and hunger would disappear and the Earth would be a better place!
Also... I suppose Nahin is ok as well.

You need to take a break from the game.
Ridiculous! I could see if I were getting senile and the games fiction were starting to blur with my day to day real life but it simply is not the case. No, more likely you are simply jealous that the high chancellor of the Serco Empire has recently named me his sole heir and informed me I can now quit my job as a journalist and fly through space in my Jeep, which now some how has acquired FTL capabilities and managed to change into an SCP.
But don't be jealous... there will always be a place for noble warriors such as your self at the newspaper I work for. Now if you'll excuse me I have to be up early tomorrow for an interview with a local family and their lawyer to get their impressions on the upcoming trial of Peytros for war crimes.
Anyways, rest easy knowing that the game remains as it always has, simply a game. Oh crud... my scanner just went off, seems there is a high speed chase involving the state police, local police, VPR and UPK trying to apprehend a drunk driver who managed to side swipe a local cops car while he was writing some other drunk idiot a ticket.

I still prefer to get rid of GTS completely. Replace it with common roman letters, ASCII7, and we can post ads, owner/guild name or even taunts!
Anyway, better than meaningless floating icons...

Alloh -1.
Meaningless floating icons?!
GTS is awesome. We should be writing in GTS on 100, but....
Allowing for custom signs outside conquerable stations writtin in GTS would be fun. Having a tab in the PDA to translate GTS would be nice for those who don't wish to learn it. Creating a method of typing in GTS would also be great.

You know Alloh, some one put a lot of time and effort into GTS. For you to refer to it as meaningless floating icons is insulting. I mean its not as though they used Portuguese or Spanish!
Or apostrophes, Lady Serco forbid!
I like the OP's idea, though.

Or you could, you know, learn GTS... it's not hard.
Ask to MOST of VO players what is that, and they consider it simple decoration without any meaning. I doubt that more than a dozen actually knows what they mean. So it is almost useless, or, at best, simply decoration.
If it is that easy to read and usefull, why YOU, RR, want a translation for it?
This would make more sense:
Step 1. Translate GTS ads to English/Latin alphabet
Step 2. Make the adverts outside stations more relevant by adding station names, maybe a news/info ticker or player created adverts... etc... etc...
Step 3. Ads make sense
Problem is that devs already stated that those ads are simple images, they are not fonts, or something easily editable as text.
If someone could make an external GTS editor, preferably web-based as a java applet, and gift it to GS or community, then maybe we could see this idea evolve.
But asking GS to develop this as a translating tab seems nonsense to me, and not practical as a gaming feature. Notice ads are outside of station... making a HUD's popup translation makes more sense than a tab in PDA. Replacing ads' images with another image using latin alphabet and common icons makes much more sense.
Here's an interesting middle point:
1. Replace GTS symbols for letters with Latin alphabet
2. Keep GTS symbols for concepts, as ships, heavy, weapon, repairs
3. Update ads images, keeping GTS symbols but adding a small size "english" translation.

Alloh: There are fonts on the wiki, actually, and grammar is very simple, and translates well from English.

Alloh, how many people that play VO do you think know Latin?
GTS is VO's own language, it's own script, not Latin. GTS is part of VO, not decoration.
Ryan wants a translator not for himself but for VO's community in general. If we start using GTS more than we do, people are going to have to know GTS, and learning a new language to play a game isn't going to go over well with most people.

GTS is an Easter egg. It's not supposed to call excessive amounts of attention to itself. Making it part of the game mechanic, or including any sort of in-game translator would defeat the purpose.
Is it an Easter egg or a feature?
Technically it is a feature, not an easter egg.
based on the wiki, deciphering GTS was an easter egg. But now that it's all known, it's a feature that no one bothers noticing..shame on ya'll.
GTS is a feature.
Latin alphabet, not latin language. You have been using the roman alphabet, Nahim/Tarenty!
@Colonel Panic:
I did translate the new stations ads, and posted in this forum. Did I found it funny or amusing? Not at all, just a waste of time and resources.
Imagine that a newbie or "you" arrive at a new station. What seems more proper:
a) Ads in GTS, you open your PDA, translate the ads, read, close PDA and resume flying to decide if you wanna dock or not...
b) Ads in plain english, with icons. You read and decide if you wanna dock or not...
in (a), before you understand if ad says "welcome" or "DIE!" you can be dead with PDA open...

@Alloh:
That's retarded. First of all, nobody, newbie or not, goes to a station without knowing if it's safe to land or not. Secondly, anyone dumb enough to base their perception of safety off the decorations outside the station, deserves to die. Third, even if it was in English, you could get all the information you want and more by just landing and seeing for yourself, a hell of a lot faster than it would take you to circle the station and read all the signs. Fourth, you're missing the entire point of GTS, which is to add futuristic decorations for better immersion in the game. Fifth, Translation of GTS is an easter egg. Most people won't even assume it means anything unless they're told it does by other members. Finally, nobody wants the devs holding people's hands and teaching them GTS, least of all those of us who actually went through the trouble to learn it on our own. Just because you're lazy and can't be assed to read GTS, doesn't mean you're entitled to demand they ruin it for everyone else. If you want to know what a sign outside a station says, LEARN IT.
