have the ability to name ship presets.

I have two reasons to request this. First, when viewing 'manage' window the presets are numbered (set preset 1-4) this forces me to go back to the buy window to see which preset is which ship.

Second, if I have multiple roles for the same ship, I have to guess which preset has which role. An example are cargo ships that double as mining and trade vessels. Heading on a trade route with armed mining beams can be painful..or trying to mine with flares and mines.

Finally, 4 slots is just too few, I suggest something closer to 10.

There's a plugin for this. It adds eight more slots, I think, and allows you to name them. I believe you can even have a number of different slot sets for each station.

And the name /Source for this plug in is?.......

Probably referring to "Ship Loadouts Manager". I haven't tried it yet so I don't know if it's any good. Better than nothing I'm sure. The thing is, from what I understand you still just have the same four buttons inside the normal interface, so to get other ships you have to pull up the plugin interface, which is an extra step. (Of course, the screen could only fit so many presets in the first place, so you'd probably need to do that anyway...)

EDIT: Oh yeah, that one lets you save separate presets based on station. I forgot about that. I'll have to try it out next time I play.
