Guild Statistics/Rankings

Hey all,

So if any of you were in Earth and Beyond you might remember how there was a guild ranking system for a number of different things. What I am proposing is a similar thing within VO where guilds are ranked amongst each other based on things such as player kills, missions completed, deaths, overall kills, guild bank, and possibly even activity (either overall time played or average hours played weekly or something).

Not only would this be a cool feature but it could foster more guild competition and help propel guilds to work towards visible goals within the game (such as having a high rank in player kills).

Anything that foster guilds, cooperation and colective actions have my full support.

Just a small page, like Duel or Race stats, or even add it to existing "Player Guilds" pages.

Top ranked guilds:
* More active (players/hours per week)
* Richest
* Biggest (Number of members)
* Most Kills (PvE,PvP)
* Missions completed by members
* Stations Owned / conquered
* (future: owned capships)
* Declared enemies / allies

Only if guilds can opt out of having items tracked, preferably on a category by category basis. A guild may find it more advantageous to keep certain bits of information secret, such as the number of capships they own. Similarly, just because they conquer a station doesn't mean they want anybody to know it is they who own it. That information might become public knowledge if they defend it or fought the previous owners for it, but if they captured it during the dark of night and hired mercenaries to defend it, the owners could be kept secret until their need for the station has passed. (For example, if ONE captured the VPR station to manufacture some capship parts, they would prefer that Itan not find out, so that Itan is caught by surprise when ONE shows up to battle with more capships than was expected.)

I do agree with giving people the option to share this information however, so long as it's optional.

perhaps we could leave the stations owned/ conquered out in order to make everything else not optional. it doesn't have to be a system where you can look down a list of all the guilds ranked but instead a system that you type /guild overall stats and it ranks you in each category but doesnt tell you the rankings of other guilds.

Useful. I do think however that there should be some benefit (besides the obvious kudos for ranking) to placement. e.g. a guild makes the most money per member during a given ranking period should get additional benefits in trade. This benefit would diminish (and even become negative towards the bottom) as a guild moved down in the rankings.

The reason I quip on a per member average is to balance out size issues between guilds. This approach would allow small guilds with a high percentage of active members to compete equally with larger guilds.

We could of course propose benefits to other categories as well. e.g. the guild with the highest active percentage of members might get a benefit in acquiring ships. I'd hesitate to suggest that they get bonuses in combat, because I'm not sure that would help actually, and it would continue to skew things to much towards PvP.

There needs to be more balance between different aspects of the game. I like VO, but I do find its major problem is balance. VO advocates that you can play "your way," but should you decide that your way isn't PvP, you're generally penalized.

This would just be an unchanging and inaccurate list. It would be inaccurate because the largest guilds would have the top spots simply by virtue of having more members.

"could foster more guild competition"

I wasn't aware that there was any. The closest thing I've seen to competition is CHRN/CLM Vs VPR and a few furballs between ONE and ITAN.
I think something like this could be cool once VO has a significantly larger player base but, even then there are far more important/useful things. Currently the majority of VOs guilds are so care bear intertwined in peaceful hippy love in crap that there is no significant conflict, which at this point makes this idea an inaccurate set of bragging rights for the 3 or 4 largest guilds.

In addition, with so few active guilds... this would simply make VO look even emptier than it currently is, which wouldn't really help things.

I think this is fairly useless until there are guild specific gameplay elements. Missions that are guild wide and some sort of guild autonomy with stable bases economy.
