Integrate DEATH into VO universe

AND RESSURECTION!

Why:

* Make the RP aspect of VO reflect what already happens.
* Explain why you can kill the same pilot again and again.
* Reason to duel until death be accepted by organized society.
* So you can die in the frontlines then go back home for dinner with your wife.

Create a simple backstory. Serco cloning technology associated with mystical Itani crystals led (FACTION) to create the "ressurection" machine.

Every pilot must be implanted with a modified Eo crystal, which is entangled paired with another crystal kept in your home station, inside your next clone.

This ensures that your memories are continuously "updated" on your cloned bodies breed there, and when you die, and only then, one clone matures and emerges/born.

To re-home, you remove/destroy previous one and implant another local crystal pair in you and another locally-kept, clone.

This opens many possibilities, as intense contraband of serco cloning machines and Itani crystals and the possibility of changing faction affiliation...

If this happens, it further justifies prices for setting home.

Prices for home? Good idea.

Alloh's mindless gibberish? Bad ideas.

Far less important than coming up with some RP bullshit explanation for how this works is implementing something that gives death meaning.

Oh, wait, I forgot--this is space quake, not an MMORPG (or even an RPG).

Doc, I think Allohs language issues are at work here... so I took the liberty of translating.

Thanks, that pretty much nails it, RR.

With the explanation, it would make sense to charge for re-homing, and for each ressurection outside your home nation (or capitol).

Another interesting possibility, is state that NPCs does not have ressurection, to explain why convoys "forget" who attacked them, and separate, RP-wise, players from NPCs.

And explain why it is possible to change faction affiliation, why you meet people you already killed flying around...

And integrate VO's reality into VO's backstory.

lelector, are you saying that your mental capacity and language understanding is smaller than Tarenty's?? He understood me...

tarenty gave the OP a +1. That does not mean he understood you Alloh.....

Death is already in the universe. It comes in a small package and flies a pink Rev C.

I always thought this was too good not to be canon:

I understood Alloh.

We lack an official explanation for death. We need one to charge for setting home and (related suggestion, though OT) charging for when you die.

Azumi, have you ever killed any pilot more than once?

HOW?? WHY??? Are they Zombies?

Have you ever died in game? How can you continue flying after exploding in space??

Why most people live in planets and do not dare to sail away? The ressurection business must be controlled by some dark entity, so most of humans doesn't know about it.

Rumours whispers about RES.pawn Company, universally spread, that allows even coward pilots to enter duels in confidence that DEATH in space will be a temporary incovenience. Many died so many times they no longer care, and even forget what a blessing it is!

Some say those clones are not human beings and have no soul. But they are exactly like the one person you knew...

Space stations crew are used to a pilot leave, never return and ask for another ship in hurry... and joke that duelists never take showers, they simply /explode a bus and get a new, fresh body...

Check the RP forum if you really need an explanation. There are many to choose from.

I, for one, seriously do not care about the hows or whys. I care about actually having someone to shoot, someone to shoot back and maybe, just maybe once in a blue moon a trader to chase and have fun with.

When the devs have time to re-write the backstory, sure they can stuff some magic mumbo jumbo into it. Until then, fly, shoot, die, respawn, spit, repeat.

I've always just accepted the traditional "die and wake up in the clone tank" theory.

How can you continue flying after exploding in space??

Inertia.

lol

@Pizzasgood: Inertia

LOL, rofl... really.. but since explosion will spread the "cloud" of your remains to all directions...

Anyway, I agree with you... Let me rephrase:

How can you fly another ship after exploding in space??

@Ryan: "die and wake up in the clone tank"
That could be the explanation. But it should be incorporated into VO canon... and explained to noobies that, after they purchase a subscription, they can die as many times as they want and have ensured the ressurection while they keeping paying in RL...

Our inability to die is simple to explain: We're already dead. We're ghosts. On our own, we cannot interact with the physical plane, or even travel through it - how could we? Since we can't interact with matter, we cannot push against it to propel ourselves.

However, we can possess certain machines. More specifically, we can control a spiritual interface that is placed inside certain ships and computers. Serco tend to use what are essentially empty drugged-up brains plugged into a computer, whereas Itani tend toward one of their spirit amplification doohickies. UIT traditionally relied on the Serco method, but since encountering the Itani, some have exchanged their braincans for sp-amps, although many find them more difficult to interface with.

By possessing the spirit-interface of a machine, we can travel through and interact with the physical universe. But when the machine is destroyed, we can no longer maintain our grasp upon it. Without being bound to something, we would just drift aimlessly, which is undesirable. Therefor, we tend to bind a small portion of ourselves to an interface in the station of our choice before leaving, so that when our ship is destroyed, we are yanked back. When possessing a ship with the bulk of our consciousness, the pull exerted by the ship overpowers the pull of the small connection with the home station, thus keeping us in the cockpit and allowing us to travel, while still leaving us with a way to get back home.

We never walk through stations because we have no bodies. Another reason, and the reason we don't visit planets, is that the living tend to shun our kind. Most people who die, die. And historically, those who did not tended to possess those who were still living, since they lacked the modern conveniences of braincans and sp-amps. Those who were possessed, or who had their friends or loved ones possessed, were understandably miffed. Even in this modern era, some immoral souls continue that practice. To this day there remains a strong sense of hostility toward us. And, living in the spiritual plane as we do, we are quite sensitive to the emotions of living beings, making proximity to them just as disturbing to us, if not more so.

We're actually not even in the ships.

I just hope that whenever the devs decide to re-write the backstory or just update it, that they will take the many RP stories into account. Or even get some of the writers to actually come up with parts of it.

Death doesn't matter as long as RP doesn't matter. And RP doesn't matter at all.

+ 1 to OP.

"and explained to noobies that, after they purchase a subscription, they can die as many times as they want and have ensured the ressurection while they keeping paying in RL"

I get what you're saying... but it doesn't really need an explanation. Most if not all newbs will realize that is the case within the first few deaths.
