Not punitive.
But favouring Guilds on long-term effort's support.

But why favor guilds? Why should guilds get more than the solo player?

Despite the fact that he'll never know, as he is currently ignoring me... I'm with Nahin on this one. Why should guilds be rewarded and solo players not? Proportionally speaking a successful solo player works as hard... (if not harder, due to his/her solitary nature)... as any guild.

The Devs have traditionally avoided favoring guilds with special advantages. I assume they're smart enough to continue that approach.

Takes the danger out of player trade interaction. If you want to sell items, you do so at the risk that someone can blast you.

Alloh and Yoda: This isn't really about the process of selling things to other people, it's about the process of two or more long-term partners sharing their items. Multiplayer run shops are just one example of how it could be used. Others include people who are cooperating to build a capship, or a group of friends who are botting and want an easy way to pool the loot to divide fairly later.

Consider if Betty and Vlad ran a shop together. Currently, Betty could only sell the items in her inventory, while Vlad could only sell the items in his inventory. If they could set up shared storage between them, they could keep the store's inventory there. That way as long as either one of them is online, they could sell you any of the goods that they have both collected.

The actual transfer from Betty or Vlad to the buyer would still need to take place outside.

(Unless it is made very simple and fast to set up shared storage, in which case it could be used as a way to trade goods. That could be countered by simply making shared storage require a certain amount of time to set up and perhaps require paying the station a fee or even rent. Rent would help prevent situations where a frequent buyer enacts a permanent shared storage with the shopowner (separate from the shop inventory one) where he could have his purchases deposited safely. He could still do it but having to pay constant rent would be more of a deterrent than a one time fee.)

I had not considered how easy this would make it to share with your own alt.

I mostly agree that guilds shouldn't have advantages over players. They do already have one though: a shared bank account. Shared storage could be seen as an extension of this. It could also be seen as a slippery slope.
