We've generally been trying to dial down the amount of "magical" information from the game, ie things that exceed the usual sensor context.
Would it be sufficient to get a PLAYER_DIED event for anyone within radar range?

Radar range may be a little weak, as events that need this information can sometimes be outside that range for the host. I see no reason why it couldn't be sector based if at all. Trying to keep every fight within 5000m of an event host could really be a problem.
And to be fair, I can get info on people entering/leaving a sector way way beyond radar range.

To within 15000m would be acceptable, since you can still see them on the Sensor Log in this range.
I agree with the 15,000 limit.
To do sector-wide would allow someone to park a bot in deep space, and it could report when someone dies in a sector which would allow people to track pirate or nationalist activity with no way to mitigate the tracking.

Agreed, the current sector sensor limit would work well - because if you are beyond that range - you probably are breaking event rules anyway.

Eh, with my new shiny retina screen, I can see folk mining at about 10k away. So if I can see them I can shoot them. (especially because they think they are safe.) Seeing them in sector list at 15k just gives me a heads up on which direction to point.
Outside of that having info on who's there, there isn't really much help anymore as drawing is clipped at 10k now. I'd really love that to be extended to the 15k of sector list range, or unlimited like before, but that's for a new thread.

The event is now triggered for anyone within your 15km sensor range (as long as they show up on your sector list).
Feel free to use this plugin to view the new events. Also makes it perdy.
