Bring back the old jump effect!
Yeah, ok, it was removed due to abuse (ram killing) but ships were immune to damage when jumping. The *wormhole* effect kind of breaks things for me personally, and even things like getting pulled into a storm looked better when you were under the illusion that your ship was travelling really fast instead of *warping* (the effect of dropping from high speed and losing control as you enter a storm).
Because ships are vulnerable to damage now while jumping, I'm pretty sure that trying to warp kill a queen (or anything) would result in the pilots death, so I am not convinced warp killing is still an issue. Now warp killing other players may still be effective, but come on, that's so hard to pull off I've only ever seen 1 pilot do it! (And yes, that pilot was Niki, travelling towards my Centurion at > 2000MS LOL)

Or just make ships noclip during the jump effect, they'll be going so fast that nobody ought to notice. (There should still be the same delay before jumping that appears with our current effect, though).
As I recall(and again, I could be wrong), there was a small delay before the ship *zoomed* off. Only a few seconds, but enough to land a few hits and maybe even destroy the target. Problem was in the past, once you hit jump, you got magic sheilds and became immune to fire. So yeah, valid point.
+1
Hmm, a thought on the noclipping, you might notice, if you saw a bunch of rags jump *through* a levi or a capship, but that could work, I just do not think it would be an issue if we are not immune to damage.
I wasn't around then, but it sounds cool.
I've had a prom ram me from behind in my moth... I sustained damage from 100%->89% and the prom exploded from 100% (prom pilot will remain anonymous). Idk if this is what you mean by warp killing, but whatever.
Hum ..I'm pretty sure the effect was instant. It can be seen around 0:20 in this video.

It'd be awesome if they added some sort of charge up animation that has the same length as the current jump. Like ..as if pixie dust gets sucked into the angine, forms a glowy ball, then explodes as you buzz off!
..and it should be noclipified.

Yea bring it back!
Yeah, the pause before jumping should definitely be the same length as it is now lol... and a visual notification that somebody is about to jump, like we have now with the gate opening up, would be nice, too. It would also be sweet if the enter sector animation was your ship speeding in, as well :P
Ah spuck yeah yer right, I think I got it confused with the many suggestions to add a short delay. Something like what you suggest would be neat. It could work the same way the current jump ani does, except instead of warp bubble, engine glow, and then zoooom.
And yes, of course you are right ShankTank, speeding ship in to re-enter also happened at one point, but roid warping was a major issue then :P (maybe noclip could help here too).

Lol, I actually went searching my old vids for one that would show the effect, but could not find any older than two years ago, and I have the video I was looking for on my youtube account, lol, ironic.
