Notify player when bounty is placed on his behalf
I was doing some PVP today and my opponent had a bounty placed upon his head for killing me. I was thinking that it would have been neat if the game had notified me about this. Not that I personally care. But it would be good for traders and newbies. Newbies in particular - this would be one way for them to learn that the bounty system exists, and for them to find out that there is at least some small action being taken by their nation to protect them. Might even make them feel better. "Hah, he may have killed me but now he's going to be hunted! Take that!" (Yes I know, he won't really, but whatever.)
In place of, or in addition to, the op.
Create a news item about the bounty.
i.e.: "UIT has placed 1,000,000 credit bounty on peytros for the assault of Pizzasgood."

+1 to OP
+1 to news on bounties placements and collections, but separate bounties from other news, a simple <hr> would do.
extending more, also warn the victim when he had his Vendetta by {hunter}'s guns, preferably 2 panels. (OT: or a BBS)
-> {victim}: {NATION} paid 1,000,000 credit bounty to {hunter} for avenging you against {wanted}

Good point, having the game notify you when avenged would be cool. But as a chat message type thing, or mission-text, not news. The news already announces when bounties are taken. (Not sure if that's what you meant or not - seemed like you were still talking about news items.)
PM, from *Marshal ...
umm I thought it did notify you when you have a bounty placed on you allready?
Yes, when it is placed on you. But I'm talking about when it is being placed on the guy who killed you.
For example, if MrNoob is flying through Azek and kets killed by Peytros, it would be neat if he got a message saying, "The UIT has placed a bounty of 10,000 cr on Peytros for his assault on you."
And if somebody then kills Peytros and claims the bounty, it would tell you that so-and-so avenged you.

So how in reality would that really work? Thats like a guy robbing a store and the dead store clerk informing the cops he robbed the store...
It wouldn't work, because a single bounty can be for more than one act of evil. For instance, I pop newb a in Dau, get a bounty placed on my head, and then fly to Azek and pop newb b and my bounty gets increased by 10k. By the time someone *hunts* me, I'll probably have killed 10 to 20 newbs, thats a lot of chat traffic for such a small gain.
Simple:
Every time Yoda killa a noobie and bounty is placed or raised, victim gets one PM. Not a /100.
When finally his evil days ends, each and every noobie get one PM, from *Marshall: "You are avenged".
No one else sees anything, only Private Messaging used, so no problem if there are sent 1 or 50 PMs...

Though to be honest, the main part I'm interested in is the first bit. The "You are avenged" message would be nice, but would also require the server to keep track of all those who have been wronged by each person with a bounty on his head. Simply notifying the victim when his death caused a bounty to be placed or raised would take less work to implement and would entail fewer changes to the server.
Besides, it is already possible for people to monitor the news to see when they have been avenged, since it lists the bounties that have been claimed. There just isn't a good way for you to know when you caused a bounty to be created/increased.
Having both parts would be nice though.

+1 to the first part.
+1 to the second part, though it isn't really necessary.
