Mining Missions!

All mining missions should give mining xp, otherwise there really isn't much of a reason to do them. I feel they need a little tweaking as well. I got +450 mining xp for 5 cu of ferric ore I mined right outside the station but only got +50xp for 40cu of aquean I had to travel outside of the sector to get.

On a mission in grey where you need to mine 150 pentric ore crates and you have to travel a ways to get it and/or you have to get it from bot infested sectors AND you find out you can just sell the pentric in that sector for more than you get in the mission...it just doesn't make any sense. So, please increase mining xp on mining missions to match the work/knowledge(of rare ores and such) that goes into them.

I stopped taking mining missions after the first one when I noticed I could sell it for more somewhere else and that I got no experience for the mission.

if you think you have to travel far from grey to obtain pentric, or mine bot infested sectors, you need to remap the universe. :)

i agree that the missions should give mining xp bonuses though.

even better. make them timed missions..

indulge me.

This station will give you THIS price for as much of THIS ore you can mine in 1hour. We need as much as possible before our deadline, so we dont' have our hands cut off.

now THAT would make mining both profitable and require skill..
possibly even involve more than one person.. probably several would be good... a few mining, a few hauling. then the mission taker (if it wasn't a group mission, which would make even more sense) would take all the ore from the haulers and turn it in before the mission timer runs out..

everyone gets to sell their ores at a good price (as much as their knowledge of the universe will allow) and it also means possible choke points for pirates, if those missions are in grey, or go through grey. if not.. well.. the pirates lose this time. i know a couple miners that would love this system.

Um, I never said I had to travel outside of grey, in fact i mined most of the pentric in grey, which was mostly bot infested. Either way, that really doesnt matter so I have no idea why you brought it up other than to be an ass. Moving on, I don't see alot of miners on so I don't see any point in group mining missions. Just raise/change the xp to the current ones and that's really all you need to do. No need for complicated timed missions or missions to "lure" traders into masterful pirate traps. Just a simple little tweak to whats already there.

Most that seriously mine do so peacefully and almost for the zen of it. So most of the time they are mining they don't want to have to run around like crack fiends boiling all the roids in order to make the time limit. It's like a strategy and selection of which ones to use at which spots and which not to so it will be possible to come back later and do some more mining if wanted and all sorts of good stuff. I mean if you really want a new type of mission involving time and/or luring people into "traps" join the PCC and make the timed/danger mining missions yourself. Having these missions at the mining stations will only be cool if the current missions are still available with more/changed xp.

i'm sorry that you know so much more about it than me and know why most people mine (for the zen or whatever). i'm just telling you that you're wrong..
maybe if mining was profitable (at least on par with trading, botting, escorting) it's POSSIBLE that more people might do it! and you WOULD see group mining going on more.. i just see this thread derailment of mine as a way to achieve that, possibly.

i agree with your original post that perhaps mining missions should give an XP bonus, or faction standing bonus upon completion of the mission, however, this has been suggested before, and nothing came of it.

i apologize if my agreeing with you and offering an additional and relevant suggestion got your panties in a twist. or perhaps it was when i stated that you don't have to go far (or into bot infested sectors) to get pentric? sorry but that's true. popped many a miner in safe pentric spots not far from where you (could only have) found it in grey.

additionally, i think the reasoning behind the devs not making an xp payout upon mission completion is that you get xp just for doing the mining itself, and the mission was only a ploy to give miners a break due to the economy weirdness. selling ore is not what it used to be as you know.

Hmm , balance.

You want cash , mine 400 denic . An easy half hour. 700 k cr .

You want xp ? mine helio . There is a lot more about than you think.

You want bm 4 ? hit the huge ferric deposits in places like dantia, 160 cu to 11k? 1000 cu /hour whilst cooking dinner.

I would like to see ribbons for all ores above xith , but really it is a friday job. More challenging missions , like mine 1000 cu of pyronic would be just an example of missions that few would ever do ....

Look, mining is something folk do while they are ingame to talk to friends and just be there. Untill we get a full dynamic economy in which the supply of goods depends on the supply of ore that is all mining will be.

Actually , find 2 roids with both helio and pyronic ores in them would be an interesting mission in itself. PCC perhaps ?
