Making convoys more fun to pirate.
Currently, if I work at it, I can bring in about 3 mill an hour ripping open convoys, that really isn't too terribly bad. However, it's still too much like grinding and not a whole lot of fun. The convoys are rather easy for me to tear to pieces, but most of the time, the cargo isn't worth hauling, unless I kill the ships at a station. Often it is really junk, the basic ores, or other low value cargo. The rate I can make doing it isn't too bad, it's just not enough fun.
What I suggest is to make the defences of the convoy not based on the number of cargo ships in the convoy, but on the value of the cargo they carry. This would make it easy to spot the high value convoys.
The defenses of the high value convoys would need to be upgraded substantially. Add a couple ragneroks with swarms on them to the defences. And more importantly the convoy escorts still end up outrunning the behemoths.
This needs to be fixed. The entire convoy should move as one big unit, The only way I can think of to do this, is to have all the cargo ships have the same top speed. There needs to be an alternate version of the centaur and the atlas that players can't buy, and is still given the same name (I think this is possible) but only has whatever the max speed is of the behemoths.
I think the reason the escorts end up blowing by the behemoths is the centaurs, they just haul ass and the escorts all seem to follow it, or lead in front of them. After two or three systems the escorts are a full sector ahead of the behemoths, which then are sitting ducks. The behemoths themselves are actually okay as they are. If the escorts worked properly, they'd be quite difficult to kill.
Also, bring back the solo npc traders, Have them fly atlasX's and give them super high value cargo, even things like the shield turrets.

its easy to spot the high value voys if you use a scanner LNH, that being said it has no bearing on the merit of the OP

I have complained about the lousy convoy tatics before.
When cappie is present, all ships should follow cappie. When no cappie present, select slowest ship as leader and all others follow this one.
And really convoy defeses should be related to its value. Not hard to implement, every Xc give another escort, every 1000Xc give it a cappie...
And title can become "Improving Convoys Tatics"

And add Combat/Light/Heavy XP for escort fighter kills. Pirates ought to be able to advance while plying their "trade."

Yes, this could also help bring pirates back... sorta get lonely all by myself with an xc trading around grey with high value cargo...
