RIP Referral Incentive Program
After playing this game for a few days I've come to the conclusion that the number one thing that can make VO better is if it had more people. I believe if an incentive program for referring other players was implemented, that it would boost player numbers by quite a bit. Something like "Refer 5 people and they pay for one month, you get one month free." or "Refer 3 people and they pay for one month, your EC 88 now has a new 3D model." If it's implemented I don't think RIP should specifically give players an in-game advantage by allowing them to purchase boosted ships or weaponry. Thoughts?
Couldn't hurt to try for a while, see if it works. Think it would help if we had more ship variety and missions to dazzle the newblets though.
thats part of why i suggested not replacing the old models with new ones, just add the new ones, even if it's mostly redundant as mentioned here http://www.vendetta-online.com/x/msgboard/1/23600#293755
Not a bad idea, we've had a few suggestions lately regarding player-base and things to do about it, like that idea involving player for free with limited access to things.
The problem I'm running into in referring my friends is that I know very few people that would play VO (unfortunately). I know a lot of people that love gaming, but...
1. Most people I know want to play a fantasy game.
2. Most of the people who wouldn't be opposed to a non-fantasy game have an aversion to a sci-fi game.
3. Most of the people who wouldn't be opposed to a sci-fi game don't like the idea of a "twitch"-based combat system.
4. Most of the people who wouldn't be opposed to twitch don't like PvP.
That pretty much just leaves me. :(
I wouldn't change a thing about this game (I love it!), but this is the reality I'm facing and I can't imagine I'm unique in this respect.

VO's a fantasy of a game! Surely that counts!?
While I appreciate you offering an idea that would pay it's own way, I have to wonder if it would make a significant difference. Most people already would like to play with their friends, and already refer others to the game.
I vote no, not because I think it is a bad idea, but just because I don't think it is a significant idea.
Thank you for offering and please keep trying.

I don't see why there would be any controversy on this idea... It has been implemented easily and effectively by many other games. People are more likely to refer if they get benefits out of it. I'm sure many VO players mention the game to their friends, but that's very different from getting them to sign up for a month and try it out.
(Though, I think a monetary benefit in the form of a free month is actually counterproductive, the game is already cheap. Pay people off with in-game content. Here's an example of an incentive structure from an absurdly popular game right now:

1. There is plenty of fantasy in Vendetta. Just look at your majicks power cell. :p
2. There is plenty of non Sci in Vendetta. Just look at your weapons fire that is slower than most turbo'd ships. :p
3. Why in the god damned fucking hell would anyone prefer to play a non twitch game? They must suck worse than me and hence they would be the last sort of players we need.
4. There is mining and trade and botting. Hell even the Itani / Serco war is entirely fought by bots.

Yea roda hit nail on the head right there, most of us already refer our friends to the game.
