My suggestions:
1) Moderated posts does not gets deleted, bad words goes ****. And it gets a stamp like "MODERATED. Be nice!"
2) create another restrict forum area, like PCC, for moderatorS discussions
3) Invite a board of moderators, at least 5 people. Any post with 2 votes gets moderated, anyone with 3 votes gets punished (mute 1 week, mute 1 month, ban). More votes can later revert a punishment.
4) Moderation author is "secret", never show who proposed/did, since it is a board. Discretion is required from moderators, to keep votes secret outside mod area.
5) Devs controls moderators as an appeal board. One only can ask Dev intervention after most (3/4) of moderators voted his case.
No need for fancy web tools, simple forum section is enough, since every vote is registered. We can make a default format that 1st post contains a vote count and a link to original post. Simple and efficient community-driven.

I've never had a problem with whistler, but humans are humans.
Two or three more mods imo.

I hereby nominate Alloh to the exalted position of Mod! In support, I offer Maal's ringing endorsement and the fact that, given Alloh's nation of origin, providing eager assistance to jack-booted thuggery should come pretty naturally to him.
And much hilarity shall ensue!
[Edit]Looks like RR is bucking for a Mod nomination as well - his (over) writing sample offers compelling evidence in favor of such an honor. So be it![/Edit]

ROFL, are you serious? Not trying to troll or anything(as apparently I am the biggest worstest troll on the forumz) but the occasional funny picture or pretend rage fit or whatever actually kinda makes forum reading bearable. If it wasn't for the random wtf posts, some of the reading material would be dry and repetitive as to make my eyes dry out and put me into a deep sleep. No offense to those of you who write a book for something that coulda been easily summed up in a short list, but most of the time its incredibly dry reading.
+1 -- just make it so that the moderators aren't leaning one way or another on the serco-itani issue, or if they are, they don't moderate stuff because it apposes their view points...
I can agree, the last thing we need is to turn into the old 'vote mute' situation.
I would suggest to avoid the favoritism thing to start enforcing one aspect like personal attacks and expand from there. They are quite obvious and can't really be defended. If people disagree and argue heatedly its great. But I think the character of the forums would improve immensely without the 'derogatory' name calling.
And if you need a place to start, feel free to start with me. Everyone knows I've more than earned a muting / ban or two.
I nominate Ryan Reign for the job. :p

I guess I'll just add that I'm pretty leery of over-moderation and conflicts of interest. Also, anonymity doesn't seem to bring out the best in people in other situations.
Moderation should be only over personal attacks and language abuse. And progressive.
Like, 'I hate your ideas' is ok, but 'I hate you' isn't.

I hate you is simply a persons feelings towards you. I hate you because you are a [insert wildly inappropriate racist/prejudiced language here]. Is what should not be considered ok.
Now wait a second. It is commonly known that Alloh and Death Fluffy are little kids without proper parenting, and should not even be allowed to post on the internet without adult guidance. So should we really allow two little kids to ruin the fun for the rest of us? Just because they get their itty bitty feelings hurt and have a temper tamper, doesn't mean everyone else will. I can see how so many would feel that these two need to be moderated, but letting them throw a little fit in public does provide occasional humor. The important thing is to not name any names, or criticize anyone, ever, in any context, in front of Alloh or Death Fluffy, or they will think it is ok for them too. So I can see where banning them, would increase the liberty for the rest of us.
ryan reign: Please stop with the "I hate you" post. It isn't very nice.
Furthermore, quoting someone else's bad behavior is not really an effective form of moderation. Quoting is a cheap tactic to lock someone else into the villain role so that they can not even go back and moderate themselves. It is in poor taste. So quoting someone as quoting someone else as saying: "This is a load of fucking bull shit"... would be in doubly poor taste.
Am I done here?

The trolls fight back!
Roda please stop saying my behavior "isn't very nice." I find it offensive and will be forced to have you moderated.
Snax, your info is pretty old.
Probably, it's the short term memory that goes first :P Long term memory sticks around like an annoying ex-girlfriend...

I feel my views are being criticized and my character slandered. I insist that Roda be sanctioned!

This thread _had_ promise. I wonder where it went.
EDIT: You know, this is a good example of why we need to enforce this.
