To celebrate VO 1.8.136, which includes:
- New Manufacturing Mission for the Neutron MkIII Turret
- New Manufacturing Mission for the Aeolus Light Repair Turret
- New Manufacturing Mission for the FireCracker Turret
I'm ressurecting two old requests to improve turrets usage:
1) Use my own turrets original post
Simply open PDA, goto tab {Turrets} and allow me use my turret(s), exactly like capships does, same interface. No ship control while in turret.
This became more important with the Repair turret above.
2) Bring gunner from any station original post
Allows that we can have gunners from any station. Same mechanics as now, just override the request that both are docked to same station.
When gunner leave ship or die, he respawns back where he was (temp.home), so it does not become a shortcut.
Charge a small fee from pilot, like 3,715c, as cloning usage .
RP-wise, gunner dispose his body and his conscience matrix is temporarily transfered to another station, where he respawns already as a gunner 'guise' or entangled clone. This technology results in a temporary transfer and limited body, so once he leaves the gunner position or ship explodes, he returns to his previous body kept in suspended animation.
From a gunner perspective, he enters a chamber, sleeps and wake already inside host ship. If desired, he can leave this temp body (or ship explode) and wake back that chamber.
If player logs off, he respawn back in temp.home. Consider this a safety fuse.
Comments?

3) AI Gunners:
3.1) NPC AI that you hire and pay salary
3.2) Targeting Computer, craftable
3.3) Adapt a Hive Core as gunner, it ignore bots and shoot any ship not grouped. (My favourite AI gunner proposal)

Just type /fire or something to toggle the ai on/off.

This topic was pretty fail, then crusader went and made it better.

weird, since auto-fire turrets did not seemed a fair option for me, and makes no sense why some auto-fire can worth more than skilled usage of tools, and fostering player interaction.
I also would like to have some NPC hired gunners, but seems unfair to me, too much firepower with AI firing? Better an aimbot...

Alloh, try to grasp this exceedingly simple concept... VO has on average twenty to forty players online. AI turrets is the only logical idea at the moment.
Also as mentioned every time you post this horrible idea... if you fly in a straight line giving up control of your ship in order to fire your turret, you are dead 100% of the time.

Even with turbo lock on? From my standing PoV at least I have a better change, head to WH, lock turbo on, drop some mines and to to use rear turret, then run back to jump when reach WH... Maybe I watched too much Star Wars and the like
And what about when mining in sector with collectors, etc?
And if I am inside a stormy sector with bots?
And about those new turrets deployed today? Stop to repair turret at ConqSt? or use firecracks conc power to prevent a rat from aiming properly?
And more important, who ever said that all suggestions must be an ensured advantage? This is an option, less efective against PC rats and a very balanced and reasonable request that I can leave controls of my ship and use my own turret...
I see both requests more balanced and fit into VO gameplay than AI turrets, even if I wish I could hire an NPC gunner or build a targeting computer.

As you seem to have forgotten the many times we've had this same conversation...
"Even with turbo lock on?"
Yes, you die every time.
"And what about when mining in sector with collectors, etc?"
If they swarm on you, yes... you die. Also if you can't mine in a bot sector with out a rear turret gunner... you are actually to intellectually deficient for mining. I did not even think that was possible.
"And if I am inside a stormy sector with bots?"
Yes, you are still going to die.
"And more important, who ever said that all suggestions must be an ensured advantage?"
No one. How ever a suggestion should also not kill everyone who uses it. Unless the suggestion is mass suicide.
"I see both requests more balanced..."
Nobody cares.
"...and fit into VO gameplay than AI turrets, even if I wish I could hire an NPC gunner or build a targeting computer."
Cappies and NPC moths have had AI turrets for as long as both have existed and it has yet to unbalance anything.

I disagree with everyone saying you die every time because maybe 1 or 2 have you have ever managed to have the luck of catching me when I'm rat taunting/
However, most regular players who aren't me would probably die
Double however, despite everyone else dieing and this being useless to them I personally would like to use my own turret so to hell with everyone else and their poor survivability +1 to using your own turrets
+1 to crafting a turret computer
if (turret_computer == NEVER) then
+1 to hiring npc gunners

As both of these are AI turrets as I've suggested all along, +1.

ok, you guys changed my mind... +1 to all :)
Look at the second one. Imagine the exploits! Instant travel across any amount of space is NOT a good thing.
Omg, you guys should read:
2) Bring gunner from any station original post
Allows that we can have gunners from any station. Same mechanics as now, just override the request that both are docked to same station.
When gunner leave ship or die, he respawns back where he was (temp.home), so it does not become a shortcut.
Charge a small fee from pilot, like 3,715c, as cloning usage .
There is NO WAY to exploit this as an insta transport for the turret player. He *respawns* at the *original station*.... think of it more as *THE PLAYER STAYING IN STATION AND COMMUNICATING VIA RADIO OR SOMETHING HOW THE TURRET MOVES*, with the fee as the *CHARGE FOR USING RADIO THINGY*... sorta like a remote control turret...
EDIT: Sorry about that rant, just trying to get the point across D:

Ahem. I saw nothing about him/her returning to the previous station. No need to be rude.
Can someone write down a better RP background to 'remote gunners' ?
i liked this explanation, maybe some 'quantic remote' using entangled particles, available in limited amount? Stations have a sub-space comm channel among themselves, so you 'tie' the remote control in station X to turret in ship docked to station Y.
and why this cannot be applied to piloting ships...

NPC gunners. RP enough, I think?
NPC gunners or a targeting computer are almost perfect fit in RP.
That remote gunner is for proposal 2, gunner from anywhere.
Shorter:
1) Use my own turrets. No matter if it's a win or certain death, should be an option.
2) Gunner from any station. Once die/leave ship returns to exactly where he was
3) AI Gunners:
3.1) NPC AI that you hire and pay salary
3.2) Targeting Computer, craftable
My vote for implementation goes in that order.
