Mentoring -- What should be changed

-1 to getting rid of it. The community is indeed pretty helpful, but having someone devoting a chunk of time to working with you one-on-one, seeing where you're weak and helping you get stronger, is not comparable to random people on 100 chiming in with useful tips from time to time. I'm not saying the latter isn't useful as well, but the former can really help people get a grasp of the game and make good friends and connections. I'm pretty sure that more will be drawn in with mentoring than just with 100 alone.

Kind of like what happens anyways or when a person joins a guild?

Yes, like that. However there is one thing you are missing Ryan... most newbs quit even before their trial is over. I know from experience that 1 on 1 mentoring helps keep newbs in the game instead of just quiting because they don't understand everything that is going on. About 90% of the people I've mentored subscribed and got accounts, which is more then the general population I'm sure. You hear newbs talking about this all the time on 100... they say stuff like "vo is boring" when they have played for only like 2 hours and never left the system they started in. Having a list of available mentors would be great, and encouraging them to get a mentor to teach them is even better.
