Buildable Early Warning Turret
To continue making things have reason:
At conquerable stations, offer a mission to build Early Warning Turret(s). From few very basic items it delivers you a turret that reports attacks and all traffic near conquerable station to its owners.
Make possible to store them, but only (2?,3?) can be deployed at once. Limited resources, store up to N, deploy up to M turrets at once.
After last one is destroyed, station issues a warning to owners, and no more notices from it.
It relates the 'limited resources' to the 'warning system' already proposed. And adds an interesting layer to Station Conquest.

or just cough up the extra 10 bucks a month to post a bot there
posting a bot there has its own problems. Currently, the system has to reset in order for new keys to become active... should an owner lose the station, all he'd have to is post his bot there to make it unusable to the winning side, as well as leave them unable to mount a defense. This was SUPPOSED to be fixed..but hasnt been as of yet... so major exploitable hole until otherwise...
