Transport License

This may have been suggested in one form or another, but after a search I couldn't find anything...

How about a new license class? For runner/smuggler ships? Transport missions get you XP, and new license levels get you access to faster runner ships?

These ships would have very high turbo speeds(low-moderate normal speeds), moderate storage capacity, and limited weapons capability. I'm indifferent about the amount of armor these ships should have as in a perfect world they wouldn't be getting shot at =)

I've got some ideas on missions for this as well, but I need to play more to get a better grasp on how things work already.

Congratulations - one small part of your post made sense.

I don't like this idea for a few reasons.

1) I think the entire license system should be scrapped. If a player has the credits and standing (or achievement) that they should be able to buy any item they please. Or take any mission. I don't think players being able to take missions beyond their abilities is a bad thing.

2) Its already difficult enough to hit a competently piloted fleeing ship unless it is heavily weighted down. Also, there are plenty of current ships that fit this niche as in the atlas and centaur. All your proposing is another round of evolution in VO where we then need new or buffed chase ships. As to not getting shot at...

3) Fly an unarmed warthog 2 competently. Not the cargo space you probably want, but only Impavid gets to play in god mode on vo. :p

4) A license class for 'runner/smuggler' simply does not make sense. How would you measure it?

Cheers

Well, the lines I was thinking along would be a...dark side to the trade license. With missions that lead you through more dangerous space, and even behind enemy lines as a smuggler.

I'm not suggesting buffed ships at all. I'm suggesting weaker, lighter ships that are faster, specifically for evading defenses and blockades =)

Smuggling is something that has been requested (begged for) for the last several decades. So I think your suggestion is in the right direction, however, I think the smuggling aspect needs to be in place prior to thinking about ships specific for it. Right now, there are no consequences to trading any freight anywhere.
