Exclusive Ships per nation/corp

Jun 10, 2010 Alloh link
This have been said before, but I would like to extend it:

Almost all ships must be exlusive, either to a nation or to a corporation.

Only exception should be buses, hogs and vultures, but later two should have exclusive versions as the SVG.

That is not a "do it now", but something for VO2.0...

Even if they have identical specs, the UIT/Serco/Itani ships should be entirely different ones. They all should have same classes of ships, while only corps sells specialized ships.

Quick example, as a light cargo ship / freighter, UIT/TPG offer the Revenant, while Serco and Itani offers very similar ships named "Serconant" e "Revitani", which respectively are more armoured or faster than Revenant, which is cheaper. Visually they are identical from far, with small details different. Clearly the original design was copied... as the 3D model...

And make sure that standard BeheMoths become UIT exclusive, despite gray corps sells smaller variations right at big nations's borders...

We really need more diversity on ships!

Usefull Comments?

I've said this for as long as I've been playing. It's simple logic that two nations at war would have more than one line of nation unique ships.

Ideally the nations should keep the ships they have but also have at least four of five fighter craft that are visually different...(not simply a different color)... from their enemies, as well as two to three nation specific cappies.

This would again add to immersion, give a better aesthetic to the respective fleets, be less confusing for newbs, add a reason to pick one nation over another... etc...etc...

The same is true of stations but thats a different topic, and Inc says that he would like to do some work with station appearances at some point any ways... (at least UITs stations IIRC.)

Maybe its time for another player designed ship contest, after which... some one who does modeling and can do it to the specs the Devs have provided can do some work the winners.

More ships is always a good thing.

Only Alloh could take an idea as good as nation-specific ships and manage to make it laughably stupid. "Serconant"? What the hell is wrong with your brain?

I think we have enough ships presently. It may make things more interesting if specific ships were less made less universal- and freaking make nation ships Nation ONLY!

Death Fluffy,
We do have a fair number of ships but, you have to admit it would be nice... (and logical and more fun/interesting)... if the nations militaries had more than one specific ship... and don't pull out the variants card.

The Serco have the Prometheus, a heavily armed heavily armored monster. However, a few variants aside the have no interceptors and no cargo ships.

The Itani have the Valkyrie a nimble and fast little bugger with less armor but they have no bombers and no cargo ships.

The UIT and sub factions have The Raptor and the WTD, which used properly are fairly good at their respective ambush/combat roles, the Ragnarok which is a great bomber, they have the Behemoth, Marauder and the Atlas all good cargo ships.

Giving the Serco and Itani visually different ships with comparable stats would add a sense of realism, while maintaining the balance. It would also likely be a fix for the lack of Itani and Serco players, in so far as a new player setting up a character could see the various ships available only to players of those nations. Most people I know who play Sci-Fi games tend to choose a race...(when the option is available)... based on personal aesthetic preferences... e.g. "WOW!!! I really like the way the Scarab looks. I guess I'm going to play as a Polarin!" (EVN reference, for those very very very few who didn't play Escape Velocity Nova).

Oh yeah...

+1 to making nation ships nation only. It really breaks immersion and strains credulity to see Serco flying about in their enemies top military ships.

/me beats dead horse.

Yup, yup.

Fluffy, there is no such thing as enough ships.

Faction redux ftw... And that doesn't have to wait until 2.0

Fair enough. I'll concede that different ship designs and capabilities would be nice. However, the only thing we've seen added to the game are variants on existing models like the Biocom vulture, Greyhound and mining moths.

So, yeah, I'm willing to add a +1 to this for some time down the line when VO gains the audience and player base that it deserves, since unless there are ship designs that the dev's are sitting on, its going to require a design artist. What ever happened to that fellow who was designing ships a while back?

Fluffy, as the original example, the 'exclusive' ships can be directly derived from original one, both specs and model. Just adding a very few details, like antenna, masts, winglets, armour, bend a cockít, stretch wider/taller/longer and paint it different would suffice.

Consider the Atlas. That is a very very basic design, so Itani atlas could have rounded edges and be painted whole blue, while serco atlas gets another red texture and a bigger 'windshield'. And their stats also differ slightly.

Since all nations share same origins - Earth-1 - so their designs can be very similar and go evolving slightly.

Its not like humans, vasudans and shivans (from FreeSpace), Those have no common roots, so their ships are entirely different. But they have exactly same classes, and within a class they share almost same specs, like light/heavy fighter, interceptor, bombers...

For me, as a good start, simply PAINT the basic models with nation colors and make them exclusive to local citizens. Like Serco Atlas is red and heavier, Itani Atlas is Blue and agile, leaving default white Atlas for UIT and gray space.

And a 3POS pilot? He loses access to enemy's top ships!

I'm sorry, but that doesn't appeal to me. I can already paint my Itani Atlas' blue. Or if I'm feeling belligerent, paint my Serco Atlas' blue as well. This suggestion would require removing the only capacity we have to customize our ships beyond port options. We can't even buy decal's to put on our ships or name them.

I'll go for new ship designs, but not more of the same.

First of all, I think Alloh has lowed the bar again, he's back to stupid ideas.

And what the hell? The Centurion Mark Anything is considerably worse than the Vulture. And you leave it out to be exclusive? No.

No. No. No. No.

Decals to put on our ships would be dope.
Jun 11, 2010 Alloh link
@Fluffy, how can you paint the Atlas body?

Only small portion of it may be colored... I meant the whole allways-white body gets colored, while you still can paint the details...

But OP is not only about this or that ship, but unique ships.

@Kierky, each nation will have its own ship with specs very similar to Centurions, but specific. As example, Itani one have 4 smaller engines, while serco one have 2 bigger ones. Small change in visuals, specs and balance.

Really Alloh, stick a STP sticker over your lips and glue your fingers to your head. Gezzz
