The UIT & the Maud: They're traders, not fighters. Their "special ship" should be the best trade ship there is, not a half-assed valk with a big box stuck to its ass. We all know you guys had big plans for towed cargo containers, etc. It seems that's never going to happen.
The Moth: It's enormous. It holds 100-200cu of cargo, whereas most other trade ships are in the 30-50cu range, and moves at a pretty good clip for all that, while still mounting two swarms/mines. It is, hands down, the best trade ship in the game. If you are not a noob, and you need to move things in bulk, either for a mission or for profit, you currently just grab a moth anywhere and do it as well as a UIT, and better than a UIT in their "special ship." This. Is. Retarded.
Most behemoths should be removed from the game, and made available in place of the UIT mauds; vice versa, the top trade option at most stations outside of UIT should be a generic maud with 50-60cu of capacity.
Current Moth Variants:
The XC should stay as a TPG ship with its current requirements, but require as well that the pilot have POS UIT standing.
The Aeolous light moth, at 80cu, could remain as-is and would become an exciting option. Similarly, the tung, axia, and tpg maud variants would become generally popular--they are currently useless because the generic moth does everything they're designed for twice as well.
Corvus should continue to offer blackmarket moths, something in the 90-100cu capacity range, for "salvage" operations. Like the Greyhound NEEDS TO BE, this moth variant should require Corvus POS and tri-nation KOS, so as to prevent the UIT monopoly on Moths from being diluted.
Mining Moths Mk I and II can stay as-is, except that they need a speed cut to 100 m/s to prevent their use as trade ships.

Why not offer a new trade ship only available at UIT stations instead of shifting several types of ships, changing requirements, 'nerfing' other ships, and creating less trade worthy ships?
Because why not? It fixes alot of the RP and gets rid of the UIT's most useless ship.
Because the moth already makes trade too easy, Surb. VO's missions and economy were never designed to have everyone able to move 120cu of crap at a time. There's no need for yet another special uber trade ship on top of all that--there's one already and it needs to be restricted. The current situation is like finding a suns/AGT SCP available to everyone at almost every single station.
Yeah. That'd be great if there was actually a percentage of players that actually traded.
The Maurader needs to be fixed. It makes absolutely no sense when comparing volume to size. The behemoth for its length gives 3.53cu / m. The Taur gives 3cu / m. The Atlas gives 2.43 cu / m. The Revenant gives 1.7 cu / m.
The Maurader, with the exception of the Corvus variant, gives an average of 4 cu / m. This thing should appear far more bulky than the Behemoth, and be the easiest ship to hit for its size. It certainly shouldn't, with the Corvus exception be useful as a combat platform by any means. Also, based on this, the Corvus variant that comes in at a pitiful 2.3 cu / m. shouldn't even be considered part of the same class.

I applaud lecter, although it will cut pirate's profit per mark, it will in all, help the eco.
I love this suggestion! It seems to balance every problem with trade and salvage ship selection present in the game and gives a lot more use to being UIT... It should also make trading and salvaging a little more interesting and seemingly gives the illusion of adding a lot more ships to the game via simply rearranging the availability of existing ships. Very well thought out.
FistOfRage: disproportionate ships have always been a bit of a problem in VO... and pretty much any space game. Not to mention, your measurements are incredibly inaccurate considering you're only using one dimension for the volume of the ship (length) and not leaving any leeway for armor, engines, and weapons. Not to mention that I, myself, am a pirate and can testify that I have never had any problem shooting mauds.
Edit: zamzx zik: it affects both pirates and traders the same way. We, too, need high volume ships to salvage cargo. If anything, it will affect us more because the proportion of cargo space available to trader trade ships to that of the pirate salvage ships will be higher, requiring us to make multiple runs to pick up cargo.

You know, when Lecter puts his trolling on hold long enough to be serious he actually comes up with some decent suggestions.
+1
(all the good Marauder variants are proprietary to the Corporations, anyway).

Sadly, I only have one dimension to work with, since I cannot find any reference to width and height to use in developing an idea of how much volume is needed for said engines and armor. However, your talking about a trade ship with up to 60 cube of storage space, that is 2 meters longer than a centurion and the exact same length as a vulture- for almost the same armor and engines! This thing should be a frigging beach ball!
Also, I'm not saying that Maruaders are difficult to hit as is, I'm saying they should be a bloody huge target that is even easier than hitting a moth.

Have you seen the 'taur? That's all I'm going to say before I tell you to stop thread jacking.
Stop thread jacking.
OP is good... the only hole I see in it are the ship descriptions. They might need to be reworked... but that shouldn't be too hard and can potentially be done by the community.

Even Trolls can think, sometimes... and have a good idea once in a while.
That is second to docking restriction, but both directly related to ship size. As a hardcore SciFi fan and physicist, it disturbs me that "space-multiplier" and relative sizes of ships.
Lecter, now complete comparison table with all ships lenght. And estimate other dimensions measuring your screen!

Looks like you can't :}

Alloh, he's not your dog to complete or comparison something that is in your head.
As I understand you see your necroidical suggestions in every single thread.
The main idea of the OP wasn't ship length's.

He even made it bold and underlined.
And Alloh, btw you contradict yourself.
In the parallel thread you support non RP and retarted idea of UIT military ship (advanced marauder)

Do you even read the OP or only thread's header?
Dr. Lecter started OP with these words:
"The UIT & the Maud: They're traders, not fighters." etc. etc. etc.
And now you already like the idea, don't you?

I can change my mind with arguments and ideas. And I did not noticed those details before Lecter's post.
But barking have no effect.

I have no idea what the first half of that sentence is supposed to mean, but the second half of it makes me feel incredibly sorry for the well-being of science research in Brazil.

This is a good suggestion... so I will quote myself in my first attempt to bring this thread back from a thread jack.

There're some potential canon issues with the TPG announcements of the Behemoth. Frankly, a bit of backstory rewriting on this minor point seems like the least of VO's inconsistency/makes no fucking sense issues.
I wasn't aware there even was any canon concerning the release of the moth. I know some players wrote RP material about it, but did the devs?
If they did, just retcon it. I don't think anyone is going to complain about that. If they do, they're just ninnies.
