A few Deneb changes

May 05, 2010 tarenty link
I've noticed a few things in Deneb that could use changing.

1: Players should NOT be able to dock with a capship that is on the opposite team. I fight for the Itanis often, and I can dock in the Serco cappies.

2: When a player kills an enemy NPC, they should lose standing, such as in CtC. -10 standing for killing an NPC fighter would help with the faction redux a bit, not to mention make sense.

3: Turrets on capships should repair over time. In a medium skirmish, I destroyed the serco capships. An Itani Trident was at 87%, with its shields back up. It had no turrets. If the shields recover, why not the turrets?

1.+1: Huge YES! Seriously, it was amusing the time I accidentally docked with the Itani cappie and started blasting Itanis but yeah... "hey, lets let the guy whos killing our men dock, repair and reload, maybe man a turret and kill some more of our men while he's here!"... kinda kills the immersion.

2. +1: Extremely logical, I'd even go so far as to say that by simply taking the mission and showing up you should lose standing with the enemy.

3. +1: I'm sure there is some science fictionish explanation for this but I don';t see why the turrets should not be able to be repaired. Hell, the cappies could even have a medic wing on stand by to fly out and do the repairs.

All in all, a big massive YES/please Devs... don't even wait for feed back... just implement immediately!

3. Turrets are destroyed, aren't they? Why res them?

1: +1 But I think they're already working on this.

2: +1 Yes.

3: Yes, but I can only see this happening if Players OR NPC's bring a new commodity, Turret Repair Kit, and this would take 30s per turret per kit.

1. +1 beyond question. It's a bug as is.

2. Logical, war time. OR make whole Deneb GRAY to justify not impacting standing.

3. Why a (new) Turret Repair Kit? Ask for a whole turret.

3.1. Interesting mission: Re-supply our front lines. Take these turrets, weapons, ammo crates, food, ..., to our cappies in battlefield. Big risk, big profit.

Alloh, off topic. No hijaking, make another thread.

Pirren, shields are also destroyed. They come back after five minutes of the cappie being undamaged. Why not turrets, too?

Estrian, the shields don't need any special repair weapon.
May 06, 2010 Alloh link
Tarenty, not hijacking, that is directly related, and derived from your idea of repairing turrets. What Estrian asked was not a shield repair kit, but a turret repair kit. Instead, deliver whole turret and get well paid!

Alloh it's very off topic.

Anyways, +1 to OP. 10 min turret repair cycle once shields return?

I like the 10minute repair cycle on the cappies. Should be once the shields are up. I like all the ideas presented in the OP.

I also like Alloh's idea of a mission to re-supply the battlefront. Great mission that could be for an atlas or something like that, maybe give it a little more use in the game.

+1. Could even make cappies only dockable by appropriate military personnel.

-10 standing seems like a lot. not sure how I feel about that pre-faction redux.

Turrets self-repairing seems odd. I'm for the player-based model mentioned in this thread. I like the idea of someone making deliveries in a warzone. However, it doesn't really make sense that a cappy wouldn't have at least a couple replacement parts lying around. meh.

it's the exact fucking same as the CTC bots if you don't want to lose serco or itani standing then don't fight in the deneb war.
May 07, 2010 Aticephyr link
yah, but there are few CTC bots, and LOTS of bots in the war. as long as users get some kind of warning prior to engaging... sure, whatever.

I just dislike the patchwork faction redux ideas that keep getting floated... they don't really make sense without the full deal.
May 07, 2010 peytros link
not really atice, i would say over the course of a week doing ctc you kill the same amount of bots if not more then you would kill doing a BS mission
May 07, 2010 Chaosis link
Atice, if your that worried about standing, then don't do BS. I'd rather have more realism in this case.

And we need more ways to wreck standings.
May 07, 2010 Alloh link
Also, CtC bots crosses gray space, while BS is restricted to Deneb.
If you go to WAR, be ready to make some ENEMIES.
May 07, 2010 tarenty link
Alloh is correct in the last comment.

I don't really see why so many people are against the turrets repairing. The shields do, so why not turrets? What use is a capship when disarmed, even with shields?
May 08, 2010 incarnate link
A shield is an energy field, which requires generators to build up enough power to bring it back up after it has buckled and collapsed. The use of shields is that the capship is far more likely to not die (still providing reload/repair to fighters, if dockable), or can flee back to home base for refitting (something we used to try with BS ships, sometimes, don't recall if it does anymore). So, shields don't really "repair", their recharging is an inherent aspect of what they.. do, all the time.

A turret is an actual.. well, like an addon, for a capship. A piece of actual equipment. Turrets being repairable probably isn't that far-fetched, but it would be significantly slower than the shield recharge rate, and could probably only repair ones that still existed (damaged). Replacing turrets might be possible for a small minority of them, with enough time, to bring some defenses online. But generally this sort of thing would require going to a shipyard, I would think.

Anyway, aside from the turret thing, we implemented the other changes. Hope you guys like..
