Mining mission

Yup.
I posted about this some time ago and it got changed, but not enough, i think. ...and i can't find the old thread. musta been BALEETED

currently, mining missions are available once every couple of days or so.. meaning they reset by player, not by mining station.
once you've done one of the (at best) two mining missions with a decent payout, you have to wait for it to reset..
with it like this, you can only do one 750K-ish mission every couple of days, while you can make like 3million cr in an hour doing convoy escorts.....

i should also mention that a lot of these missions involve hauling shitloads of ore through grey space, which i have no problem with, but i would like to be able to go to different mining stations throughout space and still have missions available, once i've done them all in a particular system..

make it like the convoy missions, where the missions are available by station. once you've done all the missions at one station, you would have to move on to the next system and do all their missions and make THOSE reappear after a couple days.

currently, making a living off mining is a joke, whereas it used to be really profitable. unless you want to mine for 30minutes, then spend the next 4 hours in an XC trying to find a decent price.

well.. i'm not going to say "but but but.. the mining missions dont' give you an XP boost when you complete it!", as just mining the ore for the mission gives one of the biggest XP boost in the game, BUT, it would, however, be nice if you got some faction points from it..

somewhere along the lines of the escort mission's faction payout..
not much, but it helps.

could be interesting but that would make it pretty easy to get faction.. i guess no more than the trade guild missions in the first few bulk procurements.

i think the devs have some weird system worked out so it slows down as you approach POS... so.. whatever that system is would work, i figure.

well... 100cu, depending on the rock, can be mined in less than 5min. i dunno. i guess it'd be fine.. i just figured it would be easier for the devs to use their system that is already in place. *shrugs*

oh.. i forgot!
make it so you can do the missions in groups, like the convoy missions, where everyone has to get the same cu. of ore.. i guess it wouldn't really pay more, but it might inspire large group mining sessions. or maybe even where they up the cu's for every person that is in group.. so group mining was even more profitable... or something... it would also provide the pierats, who currently have nothing to do (seeing as nobody really trades much in grey) with more things to chase around.

I agree in principle, however, I much prefer playing VO Outside the mission box. Right now the only reason to take the missions is because of the guaranteed payout because the normal price outside the mission is usually tanked or tanks too quickly to get the value for the quantity.

I would rather mining be 'fixed' so that it is indeed profitable again to spend hours mining if one prefers. Effort should be rewarded rather than discouraged.

Also, stations should not buy every item. 1) They should not buy items that they sell. 2) Mining and Manufacturing stations (if we had them) should be the only stations buying ore.

sure, whatever. I was merely trying to find a way to easily make mining more profitable, and i don't think they're going to do anything really huge on the current trade system any time soon, before a major overhaul, this would be the easiest work around.

i would also prefer what you mentioned TF, but i honestly don't see it happening before a major universe redux. the missions, however could be implemented pretty easily and quickly, to sorta... tide the miners over until something is drastically changed.

while i agree with you that only certain kinds of stations should buy ore, i don't think there should be untankable ore routes, as people would just find their little route, and do that forever and never leave. however, the current rate that ore prices tank (the same as trade goods), is obscene considering it takes a while to come up with 200cu of rare ore that you mine yourself, and like half a second to click "Buy" on the same cu of trade goods.

Fair points.

I will point out though that the mechanics for manufacturing are already in the game. Creating some realistic manufacturing missions (the existing missions aren't) throughout space would give players an alternative to just selling the rare ores, and create a bit more variety in what players can do.

But what did you expect me to say? Would it be too much to also ask that cu's mined for mining missions and trade guild mineral missions count as sold for Basic Miner credit?
