The game is rather difficult for newcomers into the universe. Dealing with Guardians or doing Skirmishes only to get blown away the second they come into the field is not really fair or will better anyone in combat. There should be some kind of items that can be stored into your cargo which repairs your ship slightly without backtracking to a station everytime.

This can be disabled during PvP. I know many people here will disagree because of PvP. Which is why I think that repair kits or Nano Spiders (from Freelancer) should be included in the game to progressively help tougher battles. Even a shield will help. Since this will only frustrate and annoy players. (It annoyed and frustrated me)

Try jumping to channel 911
/j 911 is the command and ask for EMS to help you out, they can escort you and repair you in the field.
