Why not just disallow docking during escort missions, altogether? Isn't it an advantage enough that the ship you're escorting has 1,000,000 or 3,000,000 armor and uber gauss?

Cause I want a mobile repair/reload platform damn it!

Just a few comments on the discussion.
1) Escorts in Itani & Serco space pay a reasonable rate atm. Far less than UIT & Grey. It is reasonable for UIT to be included in the higher rate given to Grey because it is far easier to hunt UIT space both for pc's and voys.

1a) Why don't you get a faction hit for killing a nation voy in nation space any more? Its become a bit silly that you can kill any npc without consequence.

2) I agree with davejohn to a point. I'd like to see the really good procurement missions come back, but require deliveries from Grey space. This gives an incentive for players to enter Grey and hopefully, by the time a player is concerned with improving their standings, they've got the experience to handle it.

3) There are precious few traders actively trading in VO period. The majority of trade happening is done by players (mostly new) proc-ing up standing. I've hunted UIT, Itani, Serco & Grey space. I've camped the key wormholes. Sadly, most often I'm reduced to taking out heavies from escorts because there simply isn't any real player movement happening.

4) If you disallow docking during escort missions, are you going to disallow it during Border conflict and hive skirmish as well? Someone else has said that the ai does a far better job targeting than any player. I personally find it a pita to find a turret that gives me a good view of a target.

5) Give players the option to pay for a ride- say 10,000cr per wormhole for a light ship, 25,000cr per wormhole for a medium and 50,000cr for a behemoth. The cost of travel will make using them to 'sneak porn loaded xc's across Grey safely' unprofitable yet add a valuable travel service for players who can't be bothered to fly themselves.

6) Drop the shields of escort tridents by 50% and the armor by 1/3. These aren't ships for military engagements so I doubt they really need that level of defence. Also, treat docked ships like players on turreted ships and score it a kill if the trident dies. Its extremely easy to take out a Trident in the border missions at the existing levels because they never leave the sector and they seldom move far from a given position. This is not the case with escorts because they are constantly moving rapidly towards the next jump. Or make it work in such a way that the trident in turbo can't regenerate shields due to all of the power going to the thrusters. Since docking to reload isn't a particularly viable option, this should be doable by a skilled energy pilot.

7) Get rid of the Constelations escorting voys. O V E R K I L L !

+100. Say you /msg a cappy, and he responds with a friendly message. You ask where he's going, he tells you where he's going and the going rate for transport. You /givemoney, and you're off!

On a side note, I think passage fees should be based on weight (or CUs of cargo). No ship captain in his right mind would charge the same for a full behemoth as an empty one.

docking charge: 1/2 the cost of your ship and cargo per docking, automatically charged on jump if docked during jump.

Last position:
1) Capships does Repair/Reload/Eject for medium/large ships (lenght>10m)
2) When attacked (any|only by turrets) the cappie ejects everybody inside
3) If you can take a convoy you must be able to dock with its cappies.

At least, as immediate fix, make moths unable to dock to capships.
