Isn't there a difference, however, in that in these 'our' boards, our names are (not usually) sent in the clear, even when more serious insults or defamatory statements are posted?

Reading the wikipedia article makes me think that the problem of (sometimes de facto required) good visibility (of an individual) on the net and the inherent dangers of such visibility, is, if anything, more acute than ever.
