i'm sure its been mentioned, but i'm too lazy to dig. so, if anything, this is probably a bump lol

Group FF Protection that can be toggled, might do well for guild, too.

No, never, not a fucking chance.

You want to spam shit, your buddies will suffer the consequences.
Apr 12, 2010 Armonia link
not what i had in mind, lets say there is a furball in b8, as of now you can shoot your buddy...

as of right now in NW you shoot flares....

need i continue?

I think one of the points of turning FF protection OFF was to make it so you need to be more careful about shooting friendlies.. this would kinda take away from that.

-1, not. No restrictions to weapons fire. Only consequences.

I'd be all for a toggle to to keep your groupmates from showing as hostile even if they do hit you to keep 'x' working properly... but FF protection is too far. I've killed many an enemy by lining up a target with his flare-spamming groupmate... there's no way you're going to take that satisfaction away from me.

All of that is as it should be. STFU and don't ever propose such a moronic idea again. Unless you want to talk to me about group-specific FF protections on L-mines. I'd like to see those used as "smart" area control weapons. But that's about it.

Actually... it might be interesting to make flare prox not be triggered by groupmates (of course, splash damage would still affect your groupmates). Would make some RP sense too (as would Lmines being a bit smarter).

But actual FF protection is a no. Smarter weapons would be cool, however.

i didnt know you guys were so hellbent on perfection, sorry we all cant be awesome pilots like you. i know i have been in a furball where my ally has hit me with flare by mistake sending me spinning, so i figured i would throw this out there. especially *if* there are ever enough players that they actually fly together by 20's and 30's....

ah, i get it, my suggestion is about 10 years early.

my mistake little vo community, my mistake.

@ lecter: thanks for the laugh, bud, its been a long day.

i'll take it

edit: on second thought, dont sweat the ban, i have watched way too many good ideas fly out the door because of the community, i'll check back in a couple of years.

oh, of course, i expect the "dont let the door hit yer ass on the way out" and other rude commments, in fact, i might check back to see what lecter has to say.

I'm totally cool with you and your "allies" having sucky aim, poor ordnance selection/release judgement, or both. I just expect there to be realistic consequences for such idiocy, rather than magic shields that encourage douchebags like yourself to flare-spam a furball with impunity.

Next time, tell your ally to use his fucking brain before he nukes you. Or embrace the fact that furballing that close to an enemy effectively doubles the size of their target for incoming prox-fused ordinance and use it to kill your enemy while taking damage yourself. Just stop talking out of your ass.

[EDIT]This posting is far closer to Gav's poutine scarfing presence than I ever wanted to be. I need a shower.[/EDIT]

Just curious Armonia, given how hard the community pressed for FF protection removal, in all instances, why you actually think that this should be reversed? One of the main arguments against retaining FF protection was the exact reason you think it should return: that players were able to toss flares into a group furball without having to worry about hitting their own players.

i already admitted my idea was premature, i have been playing other games where there are 1000's online. just forgot vo's place. as for now, this is fine. but im telling you, once vo gets to a point where there are 500 people online and a furball has 50 pilots in it, you're going to want this. especially for guilds and guild training.

on the other hand, VO is becoming more of a space simulator than a game, and i'm not interested in a space sim. if that's the direction they want it to go, so be it. but with that mind, i doubt they will ever meet the goals they seek. the engine is too unique not to use as a "game".

and of course, opinions are opinions, this is mine.

@lecter: you have just solidified my point about some players wanting this to be a space simulator, because in WoW (for example), AoE weapons do not effect your allies. i know what you're going to say- this isnt wow - and you're right, wow makes a ton of money.
Apr 12, 2010 peytros link
uh armonia have you ever played a fps game? there usually is FF and it is just an accepted fact about playing a realistic game. Nation wars have had up to 30 players after FF was enabled in grey and everyone thought it was great. Oh and there is no FF in wow because it is not twitch based.

so my group FF idea, which was shot down, would actually be needed if this game had a high density of players

Imported, since the hydrocephalic apparently can't even find his own rotting abortion of a thread.

There's no reason that a furball of 30, 40, or even 100 players means you'd need FF protection for guilds and groups. First, it wouldn't actually help: it's unrealistic to think that only two groups, or even guilds, will be in such an engagement - so death by misdirected "friendly" ordinance is a given anyway. Second, there's no reason that killing off your own guys is a deal breaker: Won't we hit our own troops, sire? <surprised look> Yes. But we'll hit theirs as well!

Let's give the OP the benefit of the doubt and assume that he hasn't seen what Vendetta was like before FF removal. With group FF protection, the best strategy hands down is simply to fly in and spam flares into the furball. Your groupmates will trigger the prox, increasing the chance of a hit, without taking any damage. Thus, all furballs eventually devolved into aimless flare spamming.

The chance of damaging allies is a risk you take when you use proximity weapons. This is a concept that should remain with 10 players or 10,000 players.

What, is there a fucking echo in here?
