Idea

Feb 27, 2010 Willis link
This is a pretty rough idea I just thought of, and I'm interested in hearing peoples oppinion on it.

It would be cool to see some kind of "warp gate" at certain stations. One goes into the station and pays a "x" amount of credits in order to use the warp-gate wich could transport you saaaay 1 or 2 systems. Like you could use the warp-gate to go from say Bractus to Sedina in one jump through the warp gate. It'd make long travels a little faster, for a price of course. I see it kind of being a problem for voys and stuff though so maybe perhaps you would need a certain type of ship to use it? Just so it makes convoys still have to travel the old fashioned way so you cant just take an escort mission and insta-warp two systems over and complete it. I dunno, was just a thought, what you guys think?

Hmmmm, I don't know. There shouldn't really be many ways to get past chokepoints. without leaving station sectors.

this would be a good idea once vo has many more systems in it.

I'd much prefer npc shuttle convoys... or hitchhiking with independent npc traders via the bar :D

I like the idea of Capitol to Capitol, but thats a large amount of systems you would be warping through wich also would make it easier to dodge greyspace wich I don't agree with. If we gave these warp gates specific locations we could also make it so you would not be-able to warp through say borders, or certain choke points.

"capitol to capitol provided you have the faction would be helpful"

I don't see this as realistic. Sure UIT are neutral in the war but, I doubt the Itani and Serco would be ok with the idea of two jumps to their capitol systems. The only way this should ever be implemented is if there are lots and lots of nation defenses at each entrance/exit, turrets and roving patrols.

The other thing is it would give an unfair advantage to UIT. In that they could warp directly to both Serco and Itani capitols. Where as Serco and Itani could only warp to UIT.

Keep in mind the faction fix is on the horizon... no point in putting something in that will have to be taken out.

In closing a quote...
"And yet anouther attempt to bypass the turrets...."

Fucking christ, at least put your topic IN THE TOPIC LINE.

What the fuck is Idea? Honestly, The fact that it's in a suggestions thread tells me that :(

Now now Kierky, I've already covered this in my earlier thread entitled "a post". I don't know how you could have missed it.

I wouldn't want capitol to capitol jumps - seems like a strategic nightmare that a nation would not agree to.

Sorry whistler, some things just really shit me.

... as long as you have the faction.
This means at least admired or better.... it would not be a bypass of the defenses.

Lets try it this way...

1 gate per capitol - Dau, Bethshee, Itan and Odia (corvus capitol)
Only player is transported - not ships or cargo.
10,000 credit fee?
Respected or better standing at destination.

How about when VO has a significantly larger player base... at least five hundred people on at a time, we start talking about ways to avoid player contact... or not. High faction standing or no, this is an absolutely atrocious idea. Maybe, and its a serious maybe... if the ONLY gate was located in the middle of Odia, Bractus or Sedina. It would still be a significant short cut and it would not bypass all the dangers of Grey. However, even then it would still be an atrocious idea. May even be the worst idea in VOs history.
