Simple enough. We need money sinks, and we need some method to discourage people from stockpiling huge amount of weapons and ships in anticipation of future economic fixes. We could leave a couple hundred cu of free storage at each of the capital station for anyone under 3/3/3/3/3 or something, but beyond that, any pilot wishing to use space in a station should have to pay for it.
hmm, okay. As long as you can store as much bloody crap as you like at any station. Otherwise, no thank you.

Well of course. You buy storage in 2000 cu blocks, and can purchase as many as you like.

Bargained well and done. Finally I can have all my Helio stored in one location
I don't think we need elimination, just a change from XX,000 free CUs to, say, X,000 free CUs.
I agree with Lecter. Also, make space rental cost 10x more than present.

I agree with this part.
I can't see the rationale behind offering free storage space though? First of all, why would a station do that? Secondly, what advantages does it offer in terms of gameplay?

+1 to a smaller amount of free storage and 10x current storage fees.
You should also add a per ship storage fee as well after the first few.
Theres simply no requirement for players to have anything in storage so a steep fee for large stockpiles makes sense.

Ladron: because it forces all people who wish to take a break from the game to make an evil choice between having significantly less money on their return and spending many unenjoyable hours cleaning out their inventory. People should be able to choose whether or not they want to have to make this choice.
In support of Maalik's last point: some of us don't play all the time.
But I agree that smaller storage amounts would probably be a good thing, and that the storage fees should increase a bit.
Increasing storage fees means that there's more incentive to move things around (aka buy, sell, or use), less incentive to stockpile. Moving is good :).
However, only having 1000cu of storage free is just a dash tight... simple weapon caches tend to be in the 2000cu range.

I agree thirdly. Station storage should be cut by 3/4 (say to 2500 per station) and storage fees for going over should be increased 100x.
Also, I would suggest that a station automatically seizes your property if you become KOS with that faction.

win. that would also play into the economy redux nicely.

Heh, another Lardon fail. Serious traders and miners cash in when the price is right : we actually store very little. Money has no significance in VO , why are you so obsessed with trying to reduce it ? Increasing storage prices would hit you far harder than me.
" We need money sinks " Which we is this ? If you mean " trade guilds have a lot of money and we want to be gratuitously nasty to them because that is how CHRN greifers think " then be honest and say so. If not, try and pirate us. Don't try and wrap it up in gameplay terms, your bile is obvious.
Look, the devs are working towards making good reasons for combat, conquerable stations, holding real territory in deneb and other areas. Try to see VO long term, stop messing about with short term " fixes" which actually have no effect on the game.
Oh , and certain members of CHRN who stored large numbers of ships to cash in on ship price increases wouldn't thank you much ....

It's sickening how presumptuous you are Ecka. It's a change that some of us think would make the game more immersive and interesting and that requires very little developer time to implement. People who don't like this suggestion are quite capable of speaking for themselves. If it wouldn't be a problem for you then why do you make it sound like you are against the idea. More substantive arguments and less RP please, Ecka.
Ecka: Considering the fact that several players whose in-game roles are diametrically opposed to mine (and in fact, everyone except yourself) have commented favorably on this idea, I think it's abundantly clear that your blatant trolling doesn't even merit a real response.
Maalik had a good point, I hadn't thought of that. Currently, I think the best plan would be to offer 2000 cu initially for free, and then offer each additional 2000 cu block of station storage for some monthly fee. What should that fee be, though?
I also agree that a station should seize any property you have stored there when you become KOS. In addition, storage rates should be more expensive for neutral and hated pilots.

On the one hand, Money has no significance in VO; on the other, try and pirate us. Even your rapidly-deteriorating-from-advanced-age brain can grasp the non sequitur there, Ecka. Same thing with Money has no significance in VO, and yet advocating for money sinks [is] be[ing] gratuitously nasty to trade guilds. Make up your fucking mind, you old sot.
Serious traders and miners cash in when the price is right : we actually store very little. Again, this is internally inconsistent (or you just can't write coherently, which results in the same thing for your reader). If you store very little, what's with all the sand in your vajayjay? Hell, you know what? Having to pay for storage gives you one more variable in the profit/expense calculation you "serious traders and miners" have to make -- we're doing you a favor by making the game more complex and interesting for ya! :D
Let me wrap in up in some gameplay terms for you, Ol' One Foot In The Grave: Money has no significance in VO . . . and It Goddamn Well Needs To! Otherwise, we are forever doomed to play a pretty shitty little FPS.

The point that some players take long breaks is a valid one.... simply charging by in-game time rather then real time fixes the problem....

Meh, I don't like that idea, it feels too artificial. Just offering the first 2000 cu of space for free should be sufficient. I don't exactly subscribe to the "anyone should be able to take arbitrarily long breaks without consequences" school though, anyway.

Even if a player takes a break, not losing every thing is as simple as logging in once a month for ten to twenty minutes of convoy duty or mining the right roids.
Or they can just lose access to their extra crap until they pay again?
Isn't that how it works now?
