I think this game would be awesome, if it had a bit of it that anyone could play in for free. Kinda like the runescape system, and that you only pay to play the actual game.

Would be good for people who want to still play the game in their spare time when they're outa money and can't pay the fee.

You can play the whole game for free for 8 hours, and sometimes more. And you can do that trial period as often as you'd like, so de facto, your wish has already been granted.

The developers have made it clear that they cannot give away freebies beyond that (with the exception of promotional offers), and I for one don't see the need for that.

This is a nonstarter that comes up fairly often. The usual developer response is that they aren't currently in a position to experiment with different business models.

Besides a subscription is dirt cheap at 10 or less per month...

I remember the days when I "couldn't afford" $10 in a month's time. Ah, childhood...
